LA High School discussion

This is where humans come come to work out, train, and better themselves against mutants.

Mr. McKinney watches some students train with each other. He closes his eyes; having flashbacks to his younger days. He open his eyes and put on a fake smile as he watch the students. He makes notes in his head on their training.

((It kinda seems to be the case that most people are using past tense, just fyi :) ))

Olivia broke off from the other students and trotted up to the teacher. "Mr. Mckinney," she said, "I had a quick question about killing mutants. What happens if I find one that's too powerful for me to handle? I mean, should I just run if I see one like that? Or is there some special technique?" She'd long ago set about making herself one of the best students in Mckinney's class, under the belief that it would help hide her true nature. Asking him certain questions helped maintain that image.

((Yeah, I'll stick with past tense then, I didnt't get a notification that you replied btw. Weird. I guess it's a glitch in goodreads.))

Mr. McKinney sighed in thought. "Well, from how well you do in my class, I doubt there's a mutant that's too strong for you." He said with a smile. "You can always humble a mutant by doing two things: Somehow find a way to use the powers of the mutant and reflect it back to itself. Or know its weakness. Works every time." He thought about what he said, "I rather do the latter one though. Many lost their lives from trying to reflect the powers. Very difficult."

"Oh yeah, thanks." Olivia nodded, pretending to take in the information. She crossed her arms and turned to watch the students still practicing. "Do you think they'll ever be as dangerous as they used to be? The mutants? Like should I really be scared that they're gonna rise up, or is that just a rumor?" Playing the part of scared girl always served her well when it came to hiding her abilities.

"I'm not someone who predicts the future." He said with a small laugh. He tighten up his tie with thought. "Honestly, they should beat us and have a come back. I mean they have powers. We're... mortals." He lost his train of thought. Mr. McKinney hated using the word 'mortal'. It sounded so weak to him. And it's something he wish he didn't have to act like. "However us, mortals, managed to beat the odds. It's what we do." He felt like he was spiting fire out of his mouth.

Olivia narrowed her eyes at the man. "I hope they don't beat us or have a comeback. That would be really... Well, I don't wanna have to hurt anyone. But I think you're right. If they ever tried, we'd just beat them again." She smiled and set a hand on his arm. "So, you're keeping your eyes open for mutants, right? I think there's this guy in my english class who might be one, but I'm not sure. If I told you his name, could you look into it?"

Mr. McKinney sighed. "Sure, I could Olivia." He faced her, "Who is he?"

"Oh, um... Nathan Franks? He was a little weird the other day, and I think it might be because... You know how you taught us how to recognize when a mutant's powers are manifesting?" Olivia let her brow wrinkle. "He's kinda acting like that. All moody and withdrawn and stuff. It might be just who he is normally, but I'm really worried and could you please look into it?" She smiled up at the teacher. Nathan was as much a much as mutant as she was a starfish. He hated them so much that Olivia was certain that if he ever discovered he was one he'd hunt himself down.

((I wish we could continue this! If the student isn't in first hall, we can continue?))

"How long have you been watching him?" Mr. McKinney asked, "I mean, you might have good reasons but, I have to be sure." He messed with his tie. "What powers do you think he has?"

((Yeah, exactly! Plus that way we can have more rps going overall :) ))

Olivia shrugged. "Um, I've been in class with him for a while. I don't know what powers he has exactly, but all I know is that he's been acting really weird recently. Like I said, moody and withdrawn. Do you want me to shadow him?" She looked down at the teacher's tie as he played with it. "I'm um, not sure that it would be totally safe. But I could give it a try. I think I'm getting really good at taking mutants down now."

Mr. McKinney snap his eyes to Olivia's. "No last thing we need is you getting hurt by some mutant. The school will get such bad press.." He sighed, "Or catch the eye of Orpheus." Mr. McKinney said under his breath. "I'll deal with him personally. Where is he?"

"I don't know right now." Olivia frowned, trying to think of whether she'd seen where Nathan went during fourth period. She ended up shrugging. "But I know he has English with me seventh hour, if you wanted to deal with him then. Or I could go looking for him and try to convince him to follow me back here. Should I do that?"

"Yes be careful." Mr. McKinney said, trying not to sound eager. "I need to deal with him right away so, the faster, the better, Olivia." He said looking into her eyes. He felt there was another motivation for her telling him this. Better to tell him now before the word spreads. If it turns out to be untrue, he'll have to look into her.

Olivia smiled, trying to look as sweet as she could. "Ok, thanks!" She jogged off to rejoin the class. Hopefully Mckinney would look into Nathan (although, of course, we know from the other rp that that ends up getting settled another way ;P).
