Important Dates:

12/30 - Will notify teams of who goes first! You will continue in order after that.
12/31 - Check-in deadline for team members. Captains, if you have members that haven't been checked in by then, please message them directly and let me know/
1/1 - Start Date! For simplicity, the first roll can happen after 7am CST (1pm in the UK), please adjust to your time zone for the first roll.
2/28 - End Date! 6pm CST (12am in the UK)

How to Play:
Teams will take turns "rolling the dice" to move around the board.

Book Rules
Standard Book Rules apply, plus...
🔸Rereads DO count for this challenge BUT must have been read more than a year ago.
🔸One book per prompt/task.

Task Rules
You must be able to justify how your book fits the prompt. Creativity is encouraged, but please hold to the task/prompt.
🔹Cover Color must be more than 50% (https://labs.tineye.com/color/)
🔹List page number, percentage, or chapter for a word in text
🔹Cover Items should be linked, shown or mentioned in your post/spreadsheet
🔹Short explanation for other tasks for proof of task completion

Money
🔸Teams start with $1,500.
🔸Collect a "salary" by banking books. Banked books are for deposit ONLY and cannot be deposited until your team passes GO. There is a 10-book maximum per board revolution.
🔸Books used to purchase a property or pay rent may not be banked.
🔸Books may be moved between your "Banked" list and "Game Board" list until you deposit them. (for example, if you bank a book and then need to use it for a task to buy a property, you may transfer that book to the Game Board list, as long as you haven't passed GO and deposited your Salary)

Point system $0.10 per page
100pgs = $10 (minimum page count)
1000pgs = $100 (maximum page count)
BONUS: If you read and participate in one of HOB's Formal Buddy Reads discussions, your page points will boost to $0.25 per page. (This will be an HONOR SYSTEM, as the book discussions last the entire month. Please notify a mod or captain for claiming the bonus!)

Buying Property and Paying Rent
🔸To buy a property your team lands on, you must pay the value listed on the property AND read 1 of the tasks for that property.
🔸If you land on an "owned" property, your team has to pay the team that owns the property AND read a task book.

Houses/Hotels
🔸You must own all the properties in a color-group before purchasing houses/hotels and must be evenly distributed among the group. Meaning, if you buy one house, you may put it on any one of those properties, but the next house you buy must be erected on one of the unimproved properties of that complete color-group.
🔸When a team has four houses on each property of a complete color-group, they may buy a hotel from the Bank and erect it on any property of the color-group. Only one hotel may be erected on any one property.

Chance and Community Chest
When you land on any of these spaces, your team Captain will spin the "wheel" and follow the instructions provided. If your team receives a "Get Out of Jail Free" card, it is held until used.

Income and Luxury Tax
When your team lands on either of these spaces, your team MUST pay the amount listed AND read a book from the corresponding list before moving on to your next turn.

Jail
You land in Jail when:
🔸Your token lands on the space marked "Go to Jail" -or-
🔸Your team draws a card marked "Go to Jail"

When you are sent to Jail you cannot collect your "banked book" salary in that move since, regardless of where your token is on the board, you must move it directly into Jail. Your turn ends when you are sent to Jail. Even though you are in Jail, you may collect rent from other teams.

You get out of Jail by:
🔸Using a "Get Out of Jail Free" card -or-
🔸Your team reads 2 books from the Jail list, plus pays a $50 fine.

If you are not "sent" to Jail, but in the ordinary course of play, land on that space, you are "Just Visiting," you incur no penalty, and you move ahead in the usual manner on your next turn.

Free Parking
A team landing on this place does not receive any money, property or reward of any kind, but must read a book of their choice before continuing on with their next turn.

Bankruptcy
You are declared bankrupt if you owe more than you can pay either to another team or to the Bank, and your team must retire from the game.

Hi team, I'm Shan (Shan~A~)

I've played Bookopoly in some version or another in other groups, but I'm completely nervous and excited for this one.

Words I use to describe myself: Wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, daughter, friend, reader/bookworm

I've been married for 21 yrs, I have 4 kids ranging from 17 to 27, I have 4 grandkids (which is the weirdest development of all) ranging from 2 months - 3 yrs (the youngest are twins), I have 4 nieces and nephews ranging from 3 weeks to 14 (the older two are twins), and I absolutely love to read and will read any format.

I've recently been on a tv binge of Top Chef. There are 19 seasons on Peacock, and sadly or interestingly I've watched 14 season in about 2 - 3 months. I'm currently on season 15.

Besides that my favorite shows that I watch daily: Friends & Golden Girls

Hi Team, I'm Robin.

I've been a member of GR for going on 12 years now. At one time, I was really active in groups and challenges. Real life forced me to take a break from challenges so I remained a member of GR but left all my groups. In the last year, I have started joining groups again and participating in challenges. I LOVE challenges and overwhelm myself with them. I swore this time I would only join a few but that didn't last long. I don't want to get back where I was, spending more time updating than reading LOL

I've never played Bookopoly so hopefully it won't take me long to figure out what I'm doing. FYI, I'm a bit challenged lol with spreadsheets, but getting better with using them through team challenges.

I'm a mother, grandmother, MIL, sister, friend, daughter, book nerd/reader/worm/lover/addict, and a challenge lover/addict.

I live in Middle TN. Have lived in Nebraska, West Virginia, and South Carolina, but TN is home. I always end up back in TN. I have 2 sons ages 32 and 28. I have 2 biological grandsons, ages 3 & 5 and 2 step-granddaughters ages 8 & 14. All 4 grandchildren are in the same family(youngest son). Currently, I don't work. I help my parents as much as I physically can.

I rarely watch tv and almost ALWAYS have an audiobook on. I listen at 2-3X the normal speed. I will read all formats, but prefer audio/physical over ebooks. My monthly average is 30-60+ books per month. I'm always leery when giving an average for challenges because it can fluctuate a lot based on what's happening with my children/grandchildren. But I try to stick to what I signed up for lol

I read all genres BUT am pickier about Horror and NF. Those are my least favorite.

Well....hmmm. I'm assuming since we are just starting we can read whatever? Or should we start working on task books? Are there any thoughts on a game plan? Are we going to put all our books read in the banked books-- if so there's not a column where we can state IF a book fits a specific task--can a column be added for that?

Robin, I tell myself the same about challenges every single year. This year I had good intentions, and then I was ill and didn't read at all for a few months.

Once I was on the mend, my husband said "I know you're doing better because you're reading again." Which of course led me to challenges again, because I'm also an addict when it comes to those.

It's a running joke, and also the truth, that I've always (every since I was a child), could be found somewhere reading with some milk & cookies.

I was thinking we bank all the books we read and use the ones that haven't been deposited for the tasks as needed since only one book is required per property.

From Q & A:

Only one book is required per property, you can choose who reads, or use a banked book that hasn't been deposited yet. Whatever works for your team.

As a team you may read and bank as many books as you want. You can store these on your Team Tracking banked books tab and/or Game Board Tasks tab. You can read more than 10 at a time.

When you pass GO, you choose what 10 books from your Team SS banked books that you'd like to deposit as your salary. Once those books have been deposited on the Game Board SS, under the Banked Books tab, they are frozen and CANNOT be used again.

If you land on a space and want to purchase a property or need to pay rent, the book you use to do this should be added to the Game Board SS, under the Game Board Books tab. This book is now frozen and CANNOT be used again.

Any books that the team reads are free to be moved or used until deposited or used as payment. You can use the "posted" check mark on your tracking sheet to show that those books are now out of play.

Of course, we won't know what we'll need first until after our first roll, and then we can see who has a book for that task

I love the milk and cookies part! The running joke with my kids is, "The booknerd(ME) is listening to audiobooks and talking to her friends in the box(all of you) doing those crazy book games(challenges)."

My oldest grandson(age 5) when he wants me to do something and I'm on the GR or reading, says " When you get done with your homework, can I/will you......" LOL

Hi Andrea!! Nice to meet you! No need to be nervous. Some of these team challenges are new to a lot of us and we just learn as we go. Some of them are yearly and have been a round a long time with returning players, but if you are new, the returning players are always willing to help.The captains/co captains are usually very nice and helpful and experienced in those positions : ) Just relax, read, enjoy and most importantly have fun.

After midnight last night, I went ahead and got started on some books that would work for tasks that we might possibly land on at first roll LOL

Hi Tawallah!! Nice to meet you : ) Happy New Year to you as well! Ugghh, yes, always do to many challenges. I try to be careful because after a while you find yourself being overwhelmed trying to update them all LOL But these task creators know how to make them so interesting that we can't resist. But they also know we are weak when it comes to BOOKS!!

I'm a mood reader too. Hence the reason I have about 10-15 started and not finished.

Thanks Shan!! While looking at the tasks, I thought how will you know, if you haven't read the book and the blurb doesn't state it, that a character went to jail, or is held captive, or is a tear jerker etc LOL

Was thinking that, for now, holding onto some of those books for tasks might be wise so we aren't holding up the turn process. IDK....just some ideas lol

Nice roll Shan!! So now we own 2 properties : ) Yes, I saw where other teams are doing that as well...using smaller books for buying and larger ones for deposits.

I was wondering how that was going to work with rolling only one die. Are all teams rolling with two now?

Hope everyone is doing well : ) Things are going pretty good here! I have a stack of library books that I'm working through, some are audio some are physical. I've just being doing what I would do on regular monopoly and using the books with the lowest page numbers for this tasks.

Luckily, have a lot to choose from (no matter the page number) thanks in large part to Robin, so it's making our turns go by faster.

You're doing great Shan : ) I would be do the same...just do what I would do on regular monopoly. I agree with using the smaller page number books for buying etc and the larger for collecting money when we pass "GO"

You're welcome!!! I'm happy doing the reading lol and finding what I can to fit the tasks that we may land on. I'll see what short ones I can find for what we could possibly land on next turn. Hopefully get some of these other books finished as well. I have my grandsons here this weekend--sometimes they are calm and quiet where I can read, sometimes they aren't lol Depends on how much they want to fight and argue with each other.

I'm on CST, so it's 5:51 pm here now. I'm getting ready to finish dinner and get the boys settled for the evening. Then I will be back to reading for a while. I'm a night owl, as well, so do a lot of reading while everyone else is sleeping : )
