Cheryl (cc31419) | 21 comments I read my book early “Just Another Missing Person” by Gillian McAllister. It was ok. I liked “Wrong Place Wrong Time” much more.

Tina Hilbert (beanieboptm) | 48 comments I read What Lies In The Woods by Kate Alice Marshall.
I give it 5 stars. I figured out some of it pretty early, however, the ending has more than 1 twist. Highly recommended if you like a thriller/mystery.

I’m reading the omnibus version, but since these books were originally published separately, I want to add and review them separately so they count towards my reading challenge.
I don’t read a heck of a lot of contemporary fiction, but this honestly read a bit like urban fantasy. The main character’s narcoleptic condition makes for some sublimely trippy reading. Tremblay somehow manages to perfectly blur the lines between reality and sleep. Most of the time there really isn’t much of an indication that something is a hallucination - the reader only realizes it when the mc does. Honestly, it’s an absolutely brilliant type of narrative, and one I have never encountered before.

Beverly Whitt | 13 comments I read Here Lies the Librarian by Richard Peck. It was an enjoyable quick, 3 star read. Here's the review that I posted on Goodreads.

I picked this audiobook because it included one of the keywords in a challenge that I attempt to do every year, The Girl XOXO Monthly Keyword Challenge.

This book is definitely an interesting read or listen. In the beginning, you find two orphaned characters named Jake and Peewee. You don't find out for at least a few chapters, that Peewee is actually Jake's sister. It was a shocking surprise. Jake dreams of starting his own auto mechanic garage in a rural Indiana town. They are constantly having to compete with the shady and cheating Kirbys who also have a garage in their town.

Anyway, they meet some sorority girls who are looking for somewhere to have a picnic and Jake and Peewee's lives are changed forever; especially when the sorority girls get the job of town librarian. Not only do they open up Jake and Peewee's lives, they also encourage them both to chase their dreams.

Reading first person narrative of a main character that suffers from narcolepsy is mind-bendingly fantastic. Definitely a unique concept, and it was extremely well executed. I’m a bit sad that my time with Mark Genevich is over. I feel like I crawled inside his skin for a while, and I’ll miss bumbling around with him. If Tremblay ever decided to revisit this series to add more books, I’d read them for sure. And this solidifies Tremblay’s spot on my list of favourite authors.

Cecil Huston | 239 comments Read Signal Moon: A Short Story by Kate Quinn, turned out to be a short story, but a good one. (Took liberties with the word “Sign”. An interesting departure from her usual stories, with a bit of the paranormal/fantasy thrown in. But I enjoyed it immensely, and being a short story helped me to catch up on my challenge books a bit. August and September were busy months, didn’t get a lot of reading time, and new books by two of my favorite authors came out, so had to make time for them of course!

Brittany Meldrum (brittanymeldrum) | 13 comments I read Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick. I wasn’t really a big fan of the book. Felt the writing seemed immature and unrealistic. However, it did keep me entertained and engaged and I did like the ending.

Patricia | 66 comments This month I read the following to meet this month's challenge:

Sign: Any Sign of Life by Rae Carson-- an interesting apocalyptic paranormal thriller 4 stars

With: With or Without You by Domenica Ruta - a memoir, too slow for me 3 stars; Without You by Saskia Sargison --kidnapped at sea; interesting survival story 4stars

Just: Just Last Night by Mhairi McFarlane is a love story in the UK 3 stars

Lies: An Honest Lie by Tarryn Fisher 3 stars; One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus 3 stars; We Were Liars by E. Lockhart 3 stars;Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty 3stars; The Safest Lies by Megan Miranda 4stars; Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica 3stars-- These are all for the most part psychological thrillers but I didn't get that thrilling feeling. Maybe I'm used to these stories that they all seem the same. Most of these got 3 stars except for 1 that had that extra thrill.

Grace: The Grace of Enough: Pursuing Less and Living More in a Throwaway Culture by Haley Stewart - a minimalist way of living which is something to strive for. 4 stars

Enough: A Good Enough Mother by Bev Thomas-- this book was about a psychotherapy dealing with a patient that reminds her of her missing son. The story is interesting but a bit too slow for me. 3 stars

Sleep: While You Sleep by Stephanie Merritt --this has all the spooky and gothic feels from a psychological thriller. 4 stars

Name: Before You Knew My Name by Jacqueline Bublitz --interesting mystery ghost story 4stars ; The Wind Knows My Name by Isabelle Allende -- enjoyed this WW2 historical read 4 stars

Jenny | 48 comments I read Dead Sleep by Greg Iles and loved it. I've enjoyed all the books I've read from him, and he's an author I'd read without knowing what the book is about.

Jennifer Kropitis | 30 comments Forgot to add in September I read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, I know I was a little late with this. Really enjoyed it

Jerikay Eldeen | 34 comments For September, I read West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. I really liked it! It's about 2 giraffes traveling from New York to the world famous San Diego Zoo during 1938. It's based on the true story of the famous Hurricane Giraffes.
