January 1: From Robin: I have started a thread for a Weekly Question relating to books, which you will see here. There was some discussion of putting it under the monthly thread, but it could get too long. Watch for a new question each Sunday or Monday, and feel free to post on any of them that interest you.

And you can nominate your favorite books of the year under multiple categories on this thread.
==================================================

This year we will have a separate discussion thread for each month. There will also be a weekly question on some topic related to books and reading. Members missed the regular connection we had during the Wild Discussion and expressed interest in ongoing conversation. You can chime in on whatever questions interest you. For example, our first question will be about the earliest book you remember from childhood.

Hit follow on the January thread so you can keep up with the book chat!
===============================================

Winter Reading Challenge
The Winter Reading Challenge is now in full swing! If you start on January 1st, you can count books you've read since Dec. 1, 2022. The challenge will run through Feb. 28. Find all the details here.
================================================

Next Read-a-thon will be toward the end of January
Watch for more information later in the month.
================================================

End of Year Results
As of Dec 31, according to the Community Spreadsheet, we have on average completed 82% of the prompts. Probably some of you have last-minute additions that aren't showing up yet. This also might include people who were doing the challenge a second time in the same year. Or some of our members are keeping their own spreadsheets. It's still an average of over 40 books per person, with many people finishing all 52 prompts. Congratulations to everyone who finished the challenge or even took it on!
===============================================

Prompt of the Month
4. A book with an interracial relationship
This does NOT have to be a romantic relationship. Here is the description:

In honor of the 60th anniversary of MLK's "I Have Dream" speech and his hope that "little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers", we will be reading a book that depicts an interracial relationship. This can be a romantic relationship, or it can be a friendship, familial relationship, or any other type.

For a Listopia and members' suggestions, check out this Weekly Thread.
=================================================
Happy New Year from the ATY Mod Team!

Prompt of the Month
39. A western
This is one of our lesser-read prompts. Many of us have a stereotyped idea of what this entails, but there are more options than you might think. A couple of character-based Westerns are True Grit and News of the World. There are off-kilter books like How Much of These Hills Is Gold and In the Distance. There are lots of cowboy romances, mysteries such as the Walt Longmire series by Craig Johnson, and even some Sherlock Holmes stories set in the American West. And if you are up for a long but worthwhile saga, there's Lonesome Dove. See more suggestions in this thread.

2. A book by an author you read in 2022
5. A book with 4 or more colors on the cover

Least read prompts-
39. A western
47. A book related to a geometric shape
50. A second book that fits your favorite prompt (this is an easy one to up your score, just read something you already enjoyed!)
=================================================

Prompt of the Month
52. A book with an unusual or surprising title
As always, interpretation of the prompt is up to you. But you can get some ideas, and just enjoy some oddball titles on this thread. =================================================

Some are easy, some are more difficult - it’s your choice which you want to complete. You only need to complete one task per prompt to finish the challenge. You can choose to complete all twelve prompts, or if you prefer a shorter challenge you can just complete one month’s prompts.

If you have completed the challenge in any of the ways mentioned above, you can post your result at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

The Prize!
For each month you complete you will earn one entry into a draw to be held at the end of the challenge. The winner of the draw will be invited to create one prompt to be included in the 2025 ATY Reading List
