I have a few problems with this book. As I mentioned earlier, Evan almost escaped, then Rene increasing the torture multiple times was a little too much for me. I'm distraught that it looks like Evan will lose his mentor and father figure again. At least, that's how I interpret the next blurb.
Finally, I wanted Evan and Mia to come to an agreement so he could have a little personal happiness. James Bond has his bevy of beauties. Superman has friends he likes to be around. Lee Childs says Jack Reacher is a happy-go-lucky guy. These intense characters need something to refresh them and make them human.
Even though I have these issues, I did like The Nowhere Man. Even a hint that there is light in Evan's future will make this work better for me.
I had a hard time finishing this book. I thought the beginning was solid and was trying to figure out who exactly had captured Evan and why. I got a kick out of him knocking off Rene's henchmen one by one. But the story got way too monotonous with Evan nearly escaping, only to be caught again. I lost interest in the second half of the book. I don't remember big parts of it.I think Sharon is right about Evan needing some happiness in his future. Otherwise, what is the point?
