Joyce Jarrard | 18 comments I read this book this month because of this group. I had always intended to read it, but I was wary, because I knew the content dealt with abuse. (I haven't watched the movie, either.) Not to downplay the horror of abuse, but it wasn't as traumatic a read as I had feared. Of course it dealt with misogyny, poverty and racism. What was fascinating was a colorful cast of characters who keep recombining in unexpected ways. I am glad it ended in a good place for the main character. I look forward to hearing other opinions.
