Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2429 comments This book is huge. Glad we have two weeks until the third nevernight book.

Nirkatze | 22146 comments LOL It's still short chapters though right?

Monika | 2393 comments Gosh...how much behind I am!?

Nirkatze | 22146 comments No worries, Monika! Read what you want and we'll be here. ^_^

message 12: by Rob (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2429 comments No worries, I'm only a few chapters in. The characters mostly be floating about, cast adrift as it were.

Nirkatze | 22146 comments Eek, it's been a while... 'm gonna need me a recap... is there a nice recap?

I thought we had read it recently enough that I would remember anything. Apparently, my mind retains books less than I thought considering all we read :) There are some reminder points sprinkled in. Mostly just have to remember (view spoiler)

Oh here's one https://www.reddit.com/r/Lightbringer...

Quick, concise, got me up to date. nicely done recap :)

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2429 comments Whoops posted the wrong link once to a later book :) fixed.

Nirkatze | 22146 comments Thank you! I was hoping Weeks would provide us one too, but I'll take whatever I can get... Managed to narrow the gap in my current read down to 200pages left, I doubt I'll be able to ditch it today, but tomorrow I'll join you--*fingers crossed*.

message 17: by Rob (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2429 comments I'm only 100 pages in, I'm sure you'll catch upin a nanosecond.

Nirkatze | 22146 comments Finished previous book! Looking forward to jumping back in to Lightbringer tomorrow! Yay!

Hannes | 1 comments I'm 60% through the book. I've been reading very slowly though, so you'll catch up to me in no time!

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments I am just starting... So sorry for being so late, but I was sick and not reading for almost three weeks and am trying to catch up. Thank you all for being patient with me!

Monika | 2393 comments Where I put this book??? Hmmm....

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Up to Ch. 8... Well, we are back at it straight away... I love the White! The Little and Big Jasper is in trouble and the black whales were interesting... Zymun is still an asshole! And Gavin seems to be lost...

message 23: by Nirkatze (last edited Mar 27, 2023 04:02PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nirkatze | 22146 comments Only up to Chapter 3--didn't the last book start the same? With a big leviathan? Way to jump in the action...

Glad you're feeling better Choko!

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Nirkatze, good to be back:))

Up to Ch. 10... (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Ch. 13, about Darjan and his Djinn, I wonder how that will play in the long run, or if it just for us to learn about the 200 demon Djinn whom Lucidinious and his followers are trying to remove from the world...

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Ch. 15... Well, if this wasn't a classic "wandering through the desert" episode, I don't know what is. Kind of prophetic, with the voice speaking to Kip and the lady with the message from Orholam, that " he is not worthless, but he is worth less than he thinks he is", and having in mind that he thinks he is the Lightbringer, I guess G-d is telling him he is not... Hmmm...

Her comments on his "sapling" were hilarious!:)))

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Up to Ch. 18... (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Up to Ch. 21.... (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Up to Ch. 23... Ch. 22 makes me wonder how close is the slave Orholam to the Real Orholam... That was a very interesting conversation between him and Gavin.....

Teia's background story is horrible... I still absolutely adore The White !

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Ch 24... Darn it, these types of chapters are so difficult for me to read! I hate this ritual and I hate how it hurts everyone involved! No wonder(view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Up to Ch. 38... (view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 22146 comments Choko wrote: "Nirkatze, good to be back:))

Up to Ch. 10..."

I'm finding this book is going down smoother than the ones before it. I don't know what it is about third books in a series--but so far, all of this month's #3s in the BR scene have been my favorites to date...

Chapter 8--(view spoiler)

Chapter 9--more than that, I think... (view spoiler)

Chapter 10--(view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 22146 comments Chapter 11. Okay. Orholam. I found that funny too. Fukkelot--Tourrettes?

Chapter 12 LOL bit: (view spoiler)
Just a cute quote. I like how both Kip & Teia have a tendency to talk to themselves third-person-y. I think Gavin does it sometimes too...

Still liking the innovative ways Weeks comes up with for using luxin...

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments I am doing kindle for this and I am noticing a ton of things much more than on audio.

The manumission papers thing didn't make sense to me either... But I have a very hard time dealing with the slavery issue on all fronts, so I kind of reject all aspects of it and didn't think deeper on it... But yeah, you would think there should be other back-ups and ways to prove ownership...

Fukkelot - definitely Tourettes!

Great quote! There are a ton of great quotes throughout the book so far. As you said, this book is far and away the best book so far:)

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Up to Ch. 45... (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Up to Ch. 50... (view spoiler)

Yeah this chapter was a detour from the regular... very curious to see how these card-sessions fit in to the whole... (view spoiler)

LOL That "sapling" scene! I so facepalming! OMG! To crack such jokes with a stranger... and a mother-figure...

I was wondering, about the Orholam thing--(view spoiler)

LOL oh I was totally oblivious too--(view spoiler)

I notice the same thing when I do physical over audio... I've been trying to do these big complicated books on physical to catch the details, and leaving the small ones to audio...

Some things in the book still don't add up logically for me, but I think I'm getting better at ignoring them... though I would've liked a line or two like "she had yet to file her papers, so there was no record, and with no other copies of her manumission files in existence, without those files, her ownership would revert to Kip's next of kin... Andross Guile." Something like that--that would've made my brain stop arguing with the book...

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Up to Ch. 55... (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Nirkatze, exactly! He kind of assumed we would understand that her ownership would revert to basically Big Red, but we can't really know that, since we are not privy to the rules of this world regarding slave ownership... But as you said, I try to ignore those things, because at this point I really care about the characters and want to know what will happen... I find the story fascinating and I am completely engrossed!

Nirkatze | 22146 comments I almost wish I could have been a beta reader for these books... so many of the things that bug me could have been fixed with a few spare lines of ass-covering... but yeah, I'm in to the story now!

Choko wrote: "Up to Ch. 21 ..."

Was cautiously optimistic (view spoiler)

Thank you for leaving all these notes Choko! It's so nice to run through and reply along.... ^_^

Definitely some interesting religious stuff going on in this one... (view spoiler)

Chapter 23--(view spoiler)

Nirkatze | 22146 comments Choko wrote: "Ch 24... Darn it, these types of chapters are so difficult for me to read! I hate this ritual and I hate how it hurts everyone involved! No wonder[spoilers removed]"

I really like the touches Gavin's mother added--(view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 12609 comments Ch. 24 was masterfully done! Very nightmarish in nature and very vivid. I think the author's best touch was at going from the deeply personal at first, to the superficial towards the end, when his psyche was unable to take any more... And the moment he broke! That was very strong!!!

Nirkatze | 22146 comments Through Chapter 46--work week tends to wipe the floor with me, so I've been reading but haven't really been thinking while reading, you know?

@Choko--I love reading all of your chapter blow-by-blow thoughts! It's a really nice summary & reminder too, especially since my brain is kind of in a fugue state...

General thoughts through 46--(view spoiler)

I'm into chapter 46 myself right now.

Back on 23 (view spoiler)

Prophecies/Lightbringer (view spoiler)

Are any Farscape fans here? I am always thinking Kar D'argo is going to show up any time anyone mentions "luxin".

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5121 comments Oh man I really enjoyed this series. Had many flaws, but the magic was awesome and had some very intriguing characters... Loved to hate ol Andross Guile :D
Just wanted to pop in to comment I liked reading everyone's thoughts ^^
