Laurent was one person he couldn't impress with all his money and charm. She didn't like him, especially trying to destroy the town square. That wasn't acceptable to him. He was high on my suspect list for Heartbreaker and high on the camera list too.
He was number one on my suspect list through most of the story. Laurant was used to being around money; she needed a good man to impress her, not his money. Also, she saw through his masquerade to the sleaze and manipulator that he is. Steve wanted her property more than Laurant and thought he could get it if she married him.
I figured out quickly that Steve Brenner was part of the business that was buying up properties around town. I think he was trying to romance Laurant in order to get her to sell. She thought he was a sleaze and wanted nothing to do with him. He was high on my suspect list because he was manipulative and seemed to be very smart.
We all seem to have thought the same things about that sleaze-ball.Laurent had much better taste and more intelligence.
I don’t why the town found this oily sleaze “charming.” They need to get out of town more. Laurant had him pegged from the start. His out of bounds announcement about the two of them dating said a lot about his character, or lack thereof.
I definitely saw him as the one responsible for planting that camera in Laurant’s house. Ugh! Fit him to a tee. But, I was struggling with the notion that he was Heartbreaker. He was all sleaze and underhanded deals, didn’t seem to fit the profile. And, I knew he was doing something underhanded with buying out the businesses in the town square.
