As I remember, I thought it was a good policy because people wouldn't be denied the right to serve. Not talking about their sexual orientation didn't seem like a big deal to me at the time. It wasn't until later, when I saw interviews with ex-military, that I realized what the policy meant for the individual. This story made it super clear how bad the policy was and how it impacted every aspect of their lives, personal and professional. Based on when this book was written, Tony had to leave the SEALs. I don't think it would have caused trouble with his team, but other military personnel and leadership would have caused concern.
The book opened my eyes to the real-life consequences of this law. Yes, Tony would have had to leave the SEALs but would be welcomed with open arms at Troubleshooters.
Sharon, your experience was exactly the same as mine. I didn’t have a clue. And, Lauren, it was enlightening for me, too.
Yeah, no way Tony stays as a SEAL and marries Adam.
