Samantha Solway (samleighsolway) | 8 comments I have tried (and failed) to find this book anywhere and it's bugging me. I remember reading this book when I was in primary school, so I was about 6 or 7 and this is what I remember of the book from 15 years ago.

I remember it had a black cover with a picture of a stone angel on the front, and I vaguely remember it being called Stone Angels Don't Cry or Don't Touch Stone Angels. I remember it following the story of a young girl and her sister, who I belive are sent to live in this small American town as they have lost their mother. There is a stone angel in the churchyard which nobody in the town will go near. I also remember there being some sort of genetically modified apple as the main character asks why there are red veins in the apples (these come in later in the book).

Through events in the book, the stone angel is touched (I think on the hand) and the town starts to be covered in the red veins from the apples and the girl has to rescue the town. This happens in the evening from what I can remember. I remember other characters, there being an elderly lady and a sheriff and also a teenage boy who helps them. I would say that the genre of this book was childrens horror/fantasy.

I cannot remember who the author was, all I remember was that the book was gripping to my 6/7 year old self. If you know the title of this book, please let me know as I am looking for it. Thank you.

A guess - Stone Angels by Mike Jefferies?

Some reviewers on Amazon say, "The story, set around Norwich cathedral, is about a centuries old struggle between good and evil, heaven and hell, light and dark." and "Jarvin and Joni are the reluctant heroes of this story, and facing their own fears of claustrophobia and guilt, in addition to the demons and dark angel Abbadon, they become stronger and defeat them forever."

Samantha Solway (samleighsolway) | 8 comments Thank you very much. I'm not sure if that is it. The key thing I remember in the book is that it had something to do with GM food and red vein things took over the town and started to suffocate everyone. After reading it 15 years ago it is possible that I've mixed up books? Unlikely but not something I'm ruling out. Defiantly something to do with a stone angel and red veined apples.

Time period story takes place?
Was it more of a fantasy, scifi, mystery, horror, or something else?

Samantha Solway (samleighsolway) | 8 comments It is possible it could have become a series, but at the time of reading it was a stand alone book. As for time it was set in it was the present day (so 90's or just before) and genre would have been children's horror/fantasy. That's pretty much all I remember. The church yard with the stone angel on a grave and the GM fruit. And the danger this statue possessed to the town.

The Google Books descrip says: The stone angel sits on an old gravestone in Thornley churchyard. Local legend has it that if you touch the angel's foot at midnight and cry, Arise Mad Lord Jago , he'll come out and get you. Alice doesn't believe that, but what at first seems laughable, soon becomes very unfunny indeed.
