It is a dilemma that most couples have when they celebrate. The girls wanted their family not two homes. They needed to help the children feel that they were number one in both Gavin and Thea's heart. I can't help but think that Liv's negativity towards Gavin also added to their feelings of rejection.
I agree with you about Liv contributing to their anxiety. She had no filter around the girls either and made Gavin the bad guy. Amelia internalized it by thinking if she loved him more, he’d come back home. Ava decided to nurture her mother and reject Gavin, somehow making Thea feel better.
It’s so hard for children. There was a scene where it became obvious that the girls had overheard at least one argument. And, they couldn’t miss Gavin staying in the guest room.
