message 6: by Christina (new)

Christina Morland | 47 comments Hi, Friends! Today I have a post up on Austen Variations entitled "When Darcy Met Bingley." https://austenvariations.com/when-dar...

This month's theme at AV is "When They Were Young." Once, I thought "young" meant childhood, but these days, I think college-aged is young!

So I've shared a chapter from my 2018 book, Seasons of Waiting: A Pride and Prejudice Variation, in which Darcy meets Bingley at Cambridge.

It's one of those chapters that can stand alone, almost a short story within a novel, so even if you're not interested in the book as a whole, I hope you'll find the chapter a fun read!

Thanks!

message 7: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) What a brilliant idea, to examine how Darcy and Bingley met and became friends! I’ve rushed off to download the book—sorry to be a late adopter!

message 8: by Christina (new)

Christina Morland | 47 comments Oh, thanks Abigail! That's very kind of you, but I hope you don't feel obligated, especially since the book as a whole is not about the origins of their friendship. Seasons of Waiting is an imperfect book, as all of mine are. I know, I know: that is not the way to promote my own work, but alas, it's the truth! :)

Do hope you're doing well!

message 9: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) But I enjoy your writing and the ideas behind it so much! I’ve been meaning to read them all for a while, but group reads (and I belong to about twenty groups, in the real world and on Goodreads) keep derailing me.

I just wanted to let the group know that due to a bad ice storm and damage to the lines, I do not have regular wifi. I can get online using my phone, but must pay expensive extra charges so I must keep my forays on the internet brief.

All that to say, I'll be scarce here in the group for a bit, but nothing to worry about. Carry on splendidly, my friends!

message 41: by Craftyhj (new)

Craftyhj | 441 comments Oh dear Sophia. We so rarely have truly harsh weather here in the UK that it is hard to imagine. 3 inches of snow get us wildly exited, especially her in the south of the country.

I hope you have plenty of books to read and blankets to curl up under.

message 42: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 600 comments I hope all goes well with you, Sophia. Don't use up your battery. We'll be fine and fill in for you. Hang in there, keep warm, and read by candlelight. Just like Jane did. Blessings.

We usually just have the occasional snow storm and it gets really cold, but this winter has been plain odd. Two ice storms recently, two big rain storms, a snow storm with thunder and lighting, localized flooding and power outages. I could do with boring weather for a bit. Haha!

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm back on with power and wifi just today.

Appreciate the kind thoughts, Jeanne! I'm back in the saddle with wifi and power as of today. I had out my oil lamps, cooked on the gas stove, and bailed the sump pump well with buckets. Totally old-school. :) But, it was also fun to do a puzzle and read some print books, too.
