Liv | 21 comments Hey all you hot people!

It's January wrap up time! How did everyone do? Did we have a successful month of reading?!

I have managed 20 books! This included 5 novellas, 2 audio books, 1 short stories book & 12 novels; across a few genres (but, let's be honest, mostly dominated by horror/thrillers!)

My favourites for the month have to be:
- Dark Matter by Michelle Paver
- The Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp
- The Haar by David Sodergren

Come check out my booksta and chat with me!

Amanda (adimms) | 42 comments I read 3 books this month. That’s good for me, I’m definitely a slower reader, so I’m pretty happy! Lol.

My favorite of the 3 was probably Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes.

ou, is this what the film was based on? I saw it yeaaars ago but haven't read it!

Amanda (adimms) | 42 comments @Liv They’re totally different actually (assuming you mean the movie about the puppets?). This book is a space horror about a salvage crew that finds a luxury ship that went missing in space decades ago. It was a lot of fun, haha.

message 5: by Liv (new)

Liv | 21 comments That's exactly the one I'm talking about aha! The book sounds far more interesting - I'll have to add it to my tbr!

Debbie Y I've read 11 books this month! N0S4A2 by Joe Hill was my favorite along with Sartre's short lecture and Fairy Tale by Stephen King :)

Oh nice!! I haven't read Nos4A2, I have read Heart shaped Box and enjoyed the first like 75% of it, felt like it lost its way after that..
I read Fairy Tale last year and LOVED it! Radar <3!!

message 8: by Debbie Y (new)

Debbie Y I felt the same about Heart Shaped Box. the same goes for Hornes. I think N0S4A2 is my favorite by him! and yes, Radar!:) I was instantly hooked and anxious at the same time to a point where I had to search online just to make sure she lives! :D

I did the same ahaha! throw all the gore & body horror you want at me, but animals? I need to prepare myself and/or skip over those bits :D!

Haha, same here! I love extreme horror but when it comes to animal harm I cannot take it! I get that sometimes it supports the plot or character development in one way or another, however I think some books include it for the sake of shock and nothing more. I usually skip those. Call me a wuss lol :D

It was fun! Plus, TV had very little to offer haha

Gareth Is Haunted (garethj1979) | 25 comments I've read 23 books this month. The majority being horrors.
My favourites have been
-How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix
-Don't Fear the Reaper by Shephen Graham Jones
Even though it's early in the year, they could both possibly be my book of the year.

Oh a bold claim, I love it! I have How to Sell a Haunted House on my tbr but don't own it yet! deffo need to get it ordered!

Theresa (mysteries.and.mayhem) (mysteriesandmayhem) I finished 7 books this month. Pretty good, considering two were longer nonfiction reads. My nonfiction reads this month were about artists and authors (Picasso and Poe, to be exact).

My favorite book of the month (and it set the bar incredibly high for the year) was Bone White by Ronald Malfi. Simply amazing writing! I look forward to reading more from him soon.

Right now I'm reading How to Sell a Haunted House (lots of fun) and I just started Billy Summers. I'm not far enough into Billy Summers to form an impression yet.

Great Job :D!

I'll second that. People will start to think I'm a paid advocate for that book, I'm constantly recommending it.

😂 I felt that way about Fairy Tale last year. I kept telling everyone they REALLY needed to read it, regardless of whether they thought they liked Stephen King's writing or not. I did convince quite a few staunch anti-horror/anti-King friends to give it a try! And many really did enjoy it. My work was all done for free! 🙃

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 318 comments Good start to the year for me! I've made a rule for myself that I can only buy one book for every 2 I give away, so I'm racing through books that have been collecting dust! Also been reading comics, so the singles push my reading challenge up a bit lol

Yeah. That's not likely to ever happen for me. haha! If I can't read all the books in a lifetime, at least there's a small chance I can own them! 🤣

Such a good point! A lot of this idea came from me having much less space for books since I moved. Having to be picky about the ones I keep now!

I had a real good month in January - read 16 books.

My three top reads were:

1) Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill

2) The Dismembered by Jonathan Janz

3) White Russian by J.A. Konrath

But I really had more top reads than just those three as I had quite a few 4 and 5 star reads.

It was my first time reading Joe Hill so his book Heart Shaped Box was excellent.

The book, The Dismembered by Jonathan Janz was excellent - I have read a few of his books, but he wrote his first gothic horror story which turned out to be really cool.

The book, White Russian by J.A. Konrath - I have been reading that series going on two years now as Konrath keeps adding to the series. That was book #11 and the series keeps being ongoing as he is now writing book #17 which is supposed to be out later this year. I am getting ready to read Shot Girl (book #12).

So really good month for me - out of the 16 books - I had one dnf - other than that I was happy with my reads last month.

I totally agree with you! lol

I have a friend on here that told me years ago to step into that series as it was really good and I just kept putting it off, but finally back in 2021 I decided to start reading the series and then I realized how great the books were so I ended up reading seven of the books in that series, plus ended up reading the trilogy of Phineas Troutt as Phineas is connected to the Jack Daniels series - he is one of the characters in that series. So I read in total including the trilogy - 10 books in 2021. Then I read some more of the series in 2022. So I am going to read more this year as well as Konrath keeps dishing the books out. :)

I haven't read Konrath in awhile, it would probably work out to start the series to get back into reading him.

I would definitely suggest to starting from book one and making your way through the series of Jack Daniels as you really cannot read these books as stand alone because sometimes things happen to the main characters that show up in the next book within their lives.
