Katherine (catthehuman) | 4 comments hey y'all!
i'm having trouble with exponent rules and radicals (never was good at math haha) and I'm hoping someone who's taken algebra can explain them to me? I was absent the day they were taught and my teacher isn't responding to any emails...soooo maybe some random stranger on goodreads can help lol

Pavreet | 10 comments Yaaaaayyyyyyy my time to shine. Mind u I'm in 8th grade so i might not know everything but i hope i can explain it easily.

Exponent Rules
there are 8 rules in total , i think, but these 5 are the easiest to understand.

1) Product rule - This rule essentially says that if the base number is the same and the sign in your equation is a multiplication sign ( m^6 x m^5) you can ADD the exponents together ( M^11).
So if the base is the same and there is a multiplication sign, you need to ADD the exponents

2)Quotient rule - This rule is similar to the first one but instead of there being a multiplication sign where you need to multiply the exponents, you will do the OPPOSITE. Instead of there being a multiplication sign there will be a division symbol or it will be laid out as a fraction ( which also means to divide). This is where you will be SUBTRACTING the exponents rather than adding them . (m^6 (division symbol)m^5=m^1) or (m^6/m^5=m^1)

3)power of a power- in this rule there will be a power outside of a power.((m ^5))^6. all you have to do is multiply the to exponents together and write them with the base number . (m^30)

4) power of a product- this rule says that the exponent OUTSIDE the brackets will multiply the base number INSIDE the brackets. ( m)^5= (m^5)

5) zero exponent - And lastly this rule says that if the base number has an exponent of 0 the base number will entirely change to the value of 1. (m^0)=(1)

hope this helps . Also if this is confusing , always go online. there will be plenty of resources eg khan academy.

I love u. YOU got this <33333
