BA Rae Currently reading:
Beyond the Call The True Story of One World War II Pilot's Covert Mission to Rescue POWs on the Eastern Front by Lee Trimble Beyond the Call: The True Story of One World War II Pilot's Covert Mission to Rescue POWs on the Eastern Front

I'm enjoying and learning a lot from this book. It provides a first hand account of how this pilot tried to alleviate the desperate situation faced by POWs and survivors liberated from the German camps on the Eastern Front. Not a lot of documentation on these missions so I was glad to find this account. (Technically not a combat aviation mission)

Both books sound interesting. What do you think of them so far?

jeand99 | 16 comments Ad 1. I am curious how a black aviator was treated in the USA Navy. I'll start with it this evening.
Ad 2. It is a sequel to 2 books I read before (I wrote a bookreview on both): (a) Fritzroy Maclean, 'Easter Approaches' (1949; 1991 edition). (b) Artemis Cooper, 'Cairo in the War 1939-1945' (1989). One of the key organisations in both books was the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) envisioned by Donovan.
