Alison | 27 comments I’ve ready almost all of his books except the vampire one due to TW. But I’ve loved most of his stuff! how to sell a haunted house was my favorite ❤️

LTJ (ltj81) | 2011 comments @Alison: Hendrix is easily becoming one of my favorite new horror authors. I love his writing style and do plan to read more of his content over time :-)

Alison | 27 comments Ahh I’m so glad to meet other fans!! ❤️ he has a ton of other short stories too I’m discovering.

BadAsstronauts is my current read 😂

I love Grady Hendrix! BadAsstronauts is the only book I haven't read. Most people seem to pick My Best Friend's Exorcism as a favorite, but I have to go with the rock n' roll fire of We Sold Our Souls.

He is super insightful about horror novels and movies as well, I love listening to podcasts when he's a guest. Some of that insight is on display in Paperbacks from Hell: The Twisted History of '70s and '80s Horror Fiction, as well.

Is the tw in Southern Bookclub the dog? I'd be happy to let you know which pages to skip, if that helps....

What does TW mean here? I read Exorcism. The part about the dog was very upsetting. I wish that had not happened. I have enjoyed several other GH books and hope to add more. Thankfully the dog survives in Southern Vampires. Are these spoilers? I hope not. Sorry. I can edit if need be.
I am very sensitive to animal cruelty in books. I try to find out beforehand if there is any.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments Trigger warning. Those are probably spoilers but I think we’ve all read them by now. I’d still go back and put them in spoilers just in case new members wonder by.

message 9: by Aria (new)

Aria I read The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires and loved it! Right now I got How To Sell A Haunted House I’ll be starting soon!

Erin (ems84) | 9136 comments I've read a few of his books, I really enjoy his stories.

message 11: by Alex (new)

Alex Craig (alexcraig) | 16 comments I like his stories a lot, and his themes, but I usually think they could be about 1/3 shorter. King can be super long, but he pulls me in with characters and mystery. Grady goes with humor, which I like, but it doesn't pull me through the longish bits enough. Still, I keep going back. Looking forward to starting How to Sell soon.

I have heard good things about it.

Lisa | 625 comments Paperbacks From Hell is a must-read for any horror fan - just so great.

LTJ (ltj81) | 2011 comments @Lisa: Hell yeah! I got so many books added to my TBR thanks to Paperbacks From Hell, such an awesome novel :-D

message 17: by Travis (new)

Travis Haight We Sold Our Souls was very good. This is my first foray into his work...I love horror, but I am a music geek. Therefore, no brainer.

All in all good, but it took me a while and come around, not be "what the heck" about the ending. Still good all in all. I look forward to reading more of his work.

Squire (srboone) | 1050 comments I'm slowly going through Paperbacks from Hell right now to see how many of them I've read. I counted 53 on my first look-through. I have HCs of a few of them.

message 19: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments he's my 2nd fave author. love his stuff.

message 20: by Lupe (new)

Lupe Dominguez (lupedominguez) | 173 comments Horrorstör is my favorite so far. It's so quirky and creepy and I just loved it. I've only read My Best Friend's Exorcism so far after that, so I'm a bit behind, but I want to read The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires and How to Sell a Haunted House really bad!

message 21: by Jennn (new)

Jennn | 52 comments I just listened to his short story, Ankle Snatcher, and loved it! I wanted more and think that it could be a great book, but also love that it was short and sweet and left possibilities open. Super fun take on the bogeyman!

message 22: by Shayne (new)

Shayne | 5 comments I've just completed two books of his Horrorstör and My Best Friend's Exorcism and I can say that I'm actually enjoying his works and wouldn't mind reading more by him. I want to start The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires and I hope it's as good as the other two.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I still have his novel Horrorstör that I won years ago from a Goodreads Giveaway but never got around to reading. It's still on my bookshelf. I should dust it off and give it a read.

Devon (cofnjoe) | 10 comments I'm reading Witchcraft for Wayward Girls right now. It's kind of good so far, but not what I expected Grady Hendrix to be like. I expected a lot sharper wit and sharper prose. Why I got that idea, I'm not sure. Maybe because of the flashy and clever titles and covers. It's good but not as tight as I thought it would be. I'm not sure if his other books would be the same...?
