I finished this last week, but didn' t get round to posting.

I found it rather disturbing, and especially knowing that it was based on a true event. It was a very compelling read even though I knew how it would end. Interestingly, this came out the same year as A Pin To See The Peepshow, which was also based on a real life crime, it seems there was an appetite for this genre, (long before Truman Capote invented it).

I watched the TV program I linked in the other thread, and it seems it is possible she died from illness, and wasn't murdered; she was neglected however. I don't suppose we will ever know now what the truth was.

I finished not long ago and found this a harrowing read, chilling especially as it was based on a true story.

Have read The Tortoise and the Hare and enjoyed it but found this vastly different.

Such an understated writer but able to convey much......

So true. I still remember that creeping feeling this one gave me. An excellent read. I did enjoy The Tortoise and the Hare as well, the two books are so different I'm not sure I could compare.
