Malice crept through the forest, her crossbow clutched in her gloved hands, held at the ready. She moved through the underbrush, gliding silently past trees and through patches of tall grass and flowers. Spotting motion out of the corner of her eye, she aimed the weapon directly at the source of the slight rustling.
Sailas was walking through the forest, enjoying the nature around him. He heard light rustling around but figured I’d was someone else or just an animal. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the arrow fly through the air heading right at him. He quickly jumped back, barely getting away. “What the hell!” He yelled jolting his head to where the arrow came from as he pulled a kunai off of a belt he was wearing, the belt also held a couple more kunai.
Malice jumped when she heard the yell, then grinned maniacally, adrenaline shooting through her. Ooh, whoever was back there sounded pissed. "What the hell indeed." She walked around the dense foliage separating the two, and stopped, hands on her hips. "Hello, sunshine."
As she moved around he heard the rustling, once he saw her he paused. “Oh my god, you’re literally a child.” He said as he put his kunai back in his belt. If she tried to fight him he was confident he would win.
Mal rolled her eyes. "Yes, it's nice to meet you, too. Oh, your name is so-and-so? Good to know." She crossed her arms. "While we're making rude observations, you yell like a bitch." She grinned crookedly. "What the hell?" The girl mimicked.
He laughed for a second then said, “Me? A bitch?” He paused for a second to think, “Mm, no more like a prick.” He smiled and crouched to be eye level with her, “Go back home little girl, it’s to dangerous out here for you” he said in a higher pitched voice like he was talking to a baby.
Malice sneered. "Go back home, old man. You could get your lil old self in a lot of trouble if you poke at the wrong people." She frowned. "And just you keep standing within arms reach of me- you'll soon regret it. You may need the walker you have stashed around here somewhere to get home." She shifted on her feet, the sun glinting off of the bolt she slid into her crossbow.
He laughed as he stood back up, “Oh so scary she has a cross bow, oh no whatever shall I do” he said sarcastically as he started to walk past her.
Mal spun, and whacked him in the back of the head with the crossbow. Hard. She wasn't above shooting him if he kept talking down to her, but they weren't at that point yet. "Oops." She said, a saccharine smile twisting her lips. "Clumsy me."
He took the hit, knowing it hurt but didn’t show. He turned to face her with a grin and said, “Was that supposed to hurt? Because I didn’t feel anything.”
Malice shrugged, holding her hands palm up in front of her in a sort of 'who, me?' gesture. "Obviously it wasn't, considering that particular hit was completely accidental and coincidental." She turned her back to him, and began walking away. "Not my fault your big head was in the way."
He smiled before he grabbed a small rock and threw it at her, hitting the back of her head. He threw it pretty hard but not hard enough to hurt her. He picked up the arrow she shot at him earlier and said, “Little girl, take your shit back.” He quickly caught up to her, handing her the arrow.
Malice bared her teeth at him in a feral grin. "Thank you, o gracious one." She took the arrow, and considered the pros and cons of putting it through his windpipe. "Say, what are you even doing out here? Not many old dumbass men wander through this part of the forest."
“Just enjoying the things that Mother Nature created for us, before a 3 year old tried to shoot me.” He looked at her, “You? You’re a little young to be out here.” Usually he’d be joking when he’d say something like that, but she did look decently young to be in such a dangerous place. He knew this territory like the back of his hand, and he knew she was strong enough to protect herself but she reminded him so much of his younger-self and was hoping she wasn’t out here for the same reasons he was when he was her age.
Shadows danced in her eyes. "You know, this and that. Hunting expels some excess energy and tension, even if I don't kill anything." Actually, she rarely actually tried to kill anything. More than anything, she came out here to escape from her chaotic thoughts. "Not that it's any of your business." She hissed bitterly.
He immediately recognized the slight change in her face, knowing some crazy shit happened to her. He internally sighed before saying, “Hunting, huh? I take it you didn’t catch anything?”
Malice shrugged. "I wasn't really trying. But it's quite the aesthetically pleasing picture, isn't it?" She smiled wryly. "Teen girl, out in the woods with a crossbow." She grinned maniacally. "Throw in an old man with a big head for a target, and you've got something right out of a novel."
He glared at her before saying, “Yeah, you weren’t trying, huh?” He put “trying” in air quotes. He was wondering how long it’s been since she’s eaten last, but he didn’t want to ask. He didn’t want to give off the vibe that he was worried.
Mal grinned. "Well, I wasn't. And I wouldn't have shot at you had you not startled me with all of your stomping around and shaking the leaves of that bush over there." She tucked her hair behind her ear, fighting a slight smile. They had just been biting each other's heads off- how had the mood changed so quickly?
“Hey! I wasn’t stomping.” He glared with a slight smile on his face. “Don’t shoot when your scared, haven’t you learned anything?” He said with a smiled.
Malice rolled her eyes. "Whatever. I wasn't scared. I was startled. I have relatively good senses, and when something gets close to me without me noticing right away, I put up my guard and get... a little jumpy."
Malice bared her teeth. "If you think that that's fear, I think you need to be reintroduced to real terror." Her eyes dark with shadows and death, she set her crossbow on the ground, and crossed her arms.
