Did you read "Now, Voyager" by Olive Higgins Prouty with us? What are your thoughts on this classic romance book?..."
I liked this book just as much as the movie, although I did keep picturing Bette Davis and Paul Henreid while I was reading. I think the movie was actually pretty faithful to the book's plot. I have to admit that part of me wished something would happen to Isobel so that Charlotte and Jerry could be together, but that tragic element made the story beautiful in a different way. I liked that their romance was built on a deeper connection instead of just making it a passionate affair. I was glad Tina got to have a loving female friend and that she could stay with Charlotte. Isobel was the worst and I think her manipulative tactics were actually very similar to the ones used by Charlotte's mother. I even liked the bit about Charlotte's looks going through a transformation because I read it as part of her process of getting the freedom to express herself. The book definitely reflects the time period in which it was written, but that doesn't bother me. I obviously don't agree with some of the attitudes of the 1940s, but I just look at it as a representation of the past.

I imagined the actors too! But then I've seen the film MANY times! Haha. And I agree, the book is a reflection of the time it was written - and that is just fine. It's interesting to read the authentic views from a time.
