Hii Edith!Have you started the book?
I've read the first chapter, currently on the second one, since I'm reading another book.
I just want to say... We have Wylan's POV on this book! Yayy!
Hi Bopeep! I haven't really started it either, had a few things come up, but I did take a peek at the table of contents and saw wylans pov too! I was really excited about it as well! I'm hoping to get it started sometime later today or tomorrow though. will update when I can :)
Hey, I'm back! Like usual I'm behind on the reading schedule (what's new lol). I've only caught up to chapter 4...here are my thoughts so far.
(view spoiler)
how's reading going on your end?

how's reading going on your end?
Well, we both didn't follow the schedule but we followed each other because I've read 4 chapters too hahaha!I think Jesper and Wylan's feeling for each other are kind of obvious, but I'm in too! I want to know more about Wylan, and why he doesn't know how to read.
I was surprised with Inej trying to escape so fast in the book, because knowing her, I knew her capable of it. I don't know what torture she will face, but I'm so afraid for her...
oh my gosh bopeeeeeeep! Chapter 14 almost had me in tears!! let me know if/when you get to it! there's a lot I want to talk about!
I hope to get to chapter 14 today! I've finished a book yesterday so I'm 100% with this one now.BTW I loved how Kaz planned to abduct Van Eck's wife instead of Inej... And how Alys kept singing and singing lol I had a good laugh with that part.
Hahaha, yes I totally agree with you! Alys was just a good vibe all around, with not a care in the world (kinda). gotta hand it to Kaz for the cleverness one again.
Chapter 14 read~Did we need more reasons to hate that son of a b*tch? Did we? I think not but omg, he deserves whatever Kaz has planned for him. Not because he just tried to kill Wylan TWICE but because he also got his wife to a madhouse, and I'm sure she was perfectly fine.
I'm enjoying this book more than the first one, that's for sure haha
Yes! Van Eck continues to surprise me in ways I didn’t think possible. Wylan has become a quick favorite of mine now that we have some insight on his personal life and trials. Coincidentally I’m currently working g through chapter 23, and I love that it’s covering how he first got into the Dregs. Was always kinda curious how he found them since he seems to be on the opposite end of the moral spectrum when it comes to doing jobs.
Also: Nina?? What is going on with her? I’m loving the new found side effects of parem. Still not quite clear on her powers though.

Okay so, there’s a lot going on now. Chapters 26-28. (Mega spoilers!)
(view spoiler)
Can you tell I’m enjoying this book so much more than the first one? 😂😂 I don’t want it to end honestly.

Ugh, I'm sooo behind!! I've barely have time to read this week, I hope I can read a lot on the weekend~But yeah, I'm enjoying this one a lot more too! The first one was more like an introduction to the characters and what Kaz does for a living, but this one with the promise of revenge (and how hateful Van Eck is) is more intriguing
It’s okay, no worries! The only real reason I’m getting some progress in is because I’m also listening to the audiobook. Even if it’s a little bit at a time on my way to and from work lol. Otherwise I’d be waaay more behind. But yeah, don’t feel rushed or anything, if anything I think you’re the only person so far that I’ve done a BR with that has the same reading pace as I do 😅 so that’s kinda nice
Oooh that's nice! I like to go at a similar pace~Chapter 24 read and omg, so many problems! I didn't think that plan could go THAT bad, and Pekka was involved. It seems they're safe for now...
Somehow I think Kaz will use Jespers father in the new plan, though I'm not sure what they will do next.
And Jesper/Kuwei kiss?? That was... Wow. As Jespers I didn't expect him to be Kuwei hahah
And it seems Kuwei is more mischievous than he seems hahah
Oooh yesss Jespers and Wylan's kiss was adorable! I like their relationship, like opposites attract.I think one of my favorite parts was when all of them had to flee Pekka Rollins guys. Oh, and when Kaz said he bought th e farm and other properties with the name of his brother.
Now... I'm not sure what they will do and how, but I'm glad Wylan has his pyshic back!
Oooh and when Sturmhond appeared!!! I was like "what are YOU doing here?!" hahaha
lolol I loved when Sturmhound appeared! it was a nice refresher to see familiar faces like Zoya and Genya. I'm excited to see what the finale will look like. There's so much going on and it looks like the crows are preparing to go out with a big bang. can't wait!
Yes! I read Shadow & Bone because I like to go in chronological order, and I was disappointed when nobody appeared... So now I'm glad I did because if not, it was a SUPER BIG SPOILER hahahaYou will enjoy that big bang, I'm sure! I enjoyed it a lot, and this time they DID anticipate better.
I'm almost done, btw! I wait for you to finish so we can comment the book~
it's all good, I finished it already! I was waiting for you too haha. it's kinda bittersweet but I really liked the ending!
That's nice haha! That last heist was the best of them! Kaz was planning it bit by bit -or brick by brick- and he did too well.
As I said before, I thought Kaz would die here... I didn't expect Matthias would be the one to die. That's why Bardugo put so much effort with Nina and Matthias' romance, but I didn't feel that they where really in love... Idk :/
For me, the most beautiful relationship was Nina and Inej's friendship, I was sad when they said goodbye to each other.
Jesper and Wylan together are so cute <3 but for now they hadn't many romantic moments. But I like Wylan having all Van Eck's money haha and Jesper helping him.
Kaz and Inej last encounter was super nice. Kaz always does his worst too his enemies, but he really loves his gang of misfits. Finding Inejs family was super cute from his part ❤️
I agree with you! I think Matthias and Nina's relationship felt a little rushed as well, but I did enjoy some moments they shared. my favorite one might have been in Six of Crows when Nina slipped into the ice and Matthias had to decide whether he wanted to save her or not. I think that spoke volumes about his character.
Wylan and Jesper were the highlight of the book for me! I loved seeing them together on page. I also wish they would've gotten more moments together but oh well haha
My favorite relationship was Kaz and Inej. They are so complex and they're not good characters but they both deserve love and I like their attempts at it. Especially Kaz. He's got this reputation as a big bad Barrel baddie, but with Inej...he just becomes putty in her hands. They're both dealing with pretty bad PTSD it seems, but despite that, they try to allow themselves to love one another in their own precarious way. Doesn't work out too well, but I like that they attempted it. I have such strong emotions for those two lol.
It was great reading this with you! I'm glad someone else is joining me in my Grishaverse journey! if you ever want to read the last two books together, I'd be more than happy to join! :)

*whispering* read it together
😂 I like following your Grishaverse journey... and the Nikolai books are the best done, at least for me.

I liked some of their moments together too! But as you said, it felt rushed. Now I undesrtand why hahahaWylan's story was super tragic too, I liked him a lot at the end, and I can see him being super happy... and Jesper too. I liked how he understood that he was using his power when he shot any gun.
Kaz and Inej's relationship was super complicated. They both have some kind of trauma with touch, but they were so cute together at the end, when he appeared without gloves to stay with her ^^. It's nice when the moral isn't that "love can cure any trauma", thought it's a good motivation. Inej's last chapter was super cute in general <3
Yeah, it was a fun journey!
Actually, when we finished Ruind and Rising, and went to the bookstore, I bought King of Scars, because I needed more Nikolai in my life *coughs*. So, if you want, we can read those two too (with Mina's blessing 🤣). We can start in mid-April or May, if you want?
And I'm sure of that, @Mina! I'm in love with Ninth House, and I can see how Bardugo improved between Shadow and Bone and that. So I'm sure King of Scars will be goooood.
you have my blessing 😂
KoS books have a more interesting plot, or at least it had a better flow for me, and plus some things.. aaaah 😁 I'm so looking forward to your readings of the books.

lol I love that you're keeping up with the thread @Mina! And Bopeep, yes I would love to read Kind of Scars next! I would be okay for mid-April, and roughly the same reading pace as this book :)
I got KoS for my birthday this last year, and let me tell you I was SO excited about it, lololol

Yes! I'm down for that. how about the 10th-23rd? that way it gives us an extra day lol
Also, I’m not sure if you’ve watched the Netflix adaption or not, but Nikolai comes out in the second season and they portrayed him SO WELL. Like, it’s not the best page-to-screen adaption by any means, but Nikolai?? I was like almost screaming for him hahaha. The actor is just made for the role!
@Mina, I’ll update my nominations that way if anyone else wants to join, it’ll officially be up on the thread if that’s okay

And I love that you are reading and actually commenting in the thread 😂
But truly it's wonderful to follow your journey through the books and knowing, mostly, what happens.
