I just finished it Mandy!
I found it simple but profound, with a few parts that hit really deep. I’m going to post about them in my stories today, but the top ones were the parts that spoke about:
1. When we are enmeshed in a mental state of wanting and cannot switch to having, and how we get stuck on wanting something we think will change our lives because we have unrealistic expectations (page 106).
2. That our minds need adversity to be truly engaged and creative, and how the brain will actually manufacture problems in order to try to regain the drivers seat (page 115).
3. The confirmation bias, where our brains literally find filter out and hone in on what supports what we already believe (in other words, you find what you look for) (page 122).
4. That we are not afforded time to truly process in our society, so we move on but the wounds remain, but since we can’t leave ourselves behind, no matter where we go or what we do - the trauma will always be there waiting to be triggered (page 145).
5. How we get stuck on something we want in a moment of inspiration but then fail because we don’t look at the work it would take to get there and if we actually want to put that in (page 199).
What did everyone else pull out?

Hi! I found this book an easy informative read; while being thorough and sometimes repetitive. I found a few passages I copy and pasted, as I unfortunately had to do this book digitally.
1. “Self-sabotage is very often the simple product of unfamiliarity, and it is because anything that is foreign, no matter how good, will also be uncomfortable until it is also familiar. This often leads people to confuse the discomfort of the unknown with being “wrong” or “bad” or “ominous.” However, it is simply a matter of psychological adjustment.”—-
I found this pass SO true. Give anything 10days. Settle into this new step or change before deciding.
2. “We can all acknowledge and appreciate other people’s diverse accomplishments and talents while still being happy about our own. Instead of shrugging off a compliment, we can respond by saying: “Thank you, I worked very hard, and I’m happy to be here.”——-
Let’s normalize this and all take the moment
to say, “I did this!!!” 🎉
3. “Alternatively, needing solitude too often usually means there is a discrepancy between who you pretend to be and who you actually are. When you show up to your life more authentically, it becomes easier to have people around you, as it requires less effort.” ———
This I slightly disagree with. In the busy fast-paced era that we live in- Stepping back daily (or whenever you need) and taking time to be quiet, just be and to process, and slowly go thru the moments of the day is totally acceptable.
4. “When you start showing up exactly as you are, you cut the bullshit.” —— BE YOU!! I tell my teenage daughters every time they meet new people and start new things- Be you! It is so much harder to reteach others who you really are.

I'm personally so excited to read this book and am thrilled it was your choice for our first selection. I've got my copy this weekend and can't wait to jump into discussion with you as we read this month! A quick look through it told me we are probably going to have A LOT to chat about.
Happy reading friends!
