Susan | 852 comments I just learned that there is a new Carol Shields Prize for Fiction. https://carolshieldsprizeforfiction.com/

Three of the five jury members are Canadian authors and the longlist will be announced tomorrow, with the shortlist coming on April 6. The prize aims to celebrate the best fiction written by women and nonbinary writers in Canada and the U.S.

It looks as if 5 of the 16 longlisted books are by Canadian authors. I have only read The Sleeping Car Porter and We Measure the Earth with Our Bodies from the list.

Only one of these authors is Canadian. I do realize that the award is for both Canadian and American writers, and that American authors greatly outnumber Canadian authors, but I'm not interested in reading any of these at this point simply because not only do I have a large number of books in my tbr, for these they either they are genres I don't care for (paranormal) or they are the sorts of stories I've read many books on/seen movies of before or I have friends/family that lived though them.
