Romance Readers Reading Challenges discussion

PtP - Sleepreaders (5)
1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.2. Deep Sleeper - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)
3. Name your team. Using this round's theme, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)
Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 29 March
4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)
5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!
* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.
You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.
I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.
Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.
6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.
7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.
8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.
9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)
10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.
The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Hello team 5 I am Roger, 54 with MS and Diabetes. I am medically retired so have plenty of time to read. Might if medically unwell have to take the passes. I usually try to read option one but with at least 2 others who read MM romances I will have option if I don't like a called theme. I primarily 99.5% read MM with the occasional heteronormative fantasy book. Central US time zone.
Team names suggestions:Sleepreaders
Dreaming about books.
Who needs Sleep, we read.
Be Quiet, we are Sleeping
Hi Roger. I love the name Sleepreaders! I'm ok with you taking the Pass whenever you need to. I rarely take them but I do tend to lost these days with work and family events. I'm currently in the process of leaving one position at my current job to another position with more responsibility which I'm happy about. Yay but that also means adjusting. I hope I can get a lot of audios for the drive so I call be able to stay current. LOL
Greetings, team! I'm Tru or Tuitt - either is fine.I need to dash out the door, but I wanted to pop in and say hello. I'll be back tonight to introduce myself properly.
I'm looking forward to reading with you all!
Hi everyone,Sorry I'm late! I didn't get a notification either, so thanks for the message 😊
Sleepreaders is an awesome name! I'm excited to get started, PtP is one of my favorite games. Like Roger I'm mostly an MM reader, but I read a lot of MF romance and fantasy too.

Still haven't introduced yourself. Neither has Maddie
She has been saying it in the signup thread once everyone was checked in and named. There would be an early call.

I'm Maddie, 25 year old from New Zealand so I'll more often than not be asking about hours until deadline haha. I primarily read romance and ya fantasy, but I'm trying to branch out into other genres! I work full-time during the week but have a lot of time to read

I work full time as well but I think most of my reading or mostly listening is when I'm driving to work, lol.
Yeah that makes sense. I read when my bf is out of the house which gives me quite a bit of time haha
Maddie wrote: "Yeah that makes sense. I read when my bf is out of the house which gives me quite a bit of time haha"Hahaha that will do it. I have my kids around chatting most of the time but I do try to head to bed early most days so I can have some actual reading time

Yeah I totally would do that too haha
Maddie wrote: "In a twisted way it's romance haha do the books need to be shelved as romance?"Actually, books don't have to be romance.
From the Q&A:
Q: Does the book have to be a romance?
A: No, but it does have to be a novel. Textbooks will not count. Biographies and autobiographies are OK.
I only remembered because I asked the same question the last time I played. I assumed it would be only romances, too. Who knew?
Selection Post, Option 1 - Week: 1
A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr
Page count: 135 per GR
How the book qualifies: The author's last name begins with C and it's MPG Historical. This book is an overachiever.
Completion Post, Option 1 - Week: 1
A Month in the Country by J.L. Carr
Rating: 5 stars
Review: I've been meaning to read A Month in the Country for quite some time - the paperback (2000 edition) has been around the house for years. For one reason or another, I never picked it up with intent to read.
This time, though, it fit several different challenges I needed to read for, so I finally began - and read it in one sitting. There are a number of marvelous reviews of this book, so I'm not going to drive myself too crazy trying to get all my thoughts down, so I'll just say this book is simply beautiful.
And I wrote bit about myself earlier, but apparently I never pressed Post, lol. I'll try again:You're quite right, Roger, I never did introduce myself.
As I said above, either Tru or Truitt is fine.
I live in the US - Georgia - and read a bit of everything. These days it's mainly genre fiction (SF&F, mystery, mm romance), plus plays and an increasing number of nonfiction works (at least I'm trying to increase the number.)
Aside from reading, my hobbies are gardening, comunity theatre, and herding cats. I'm currently in a production which has four remaining performances over this weekend. I'll be sorry to see it end, but i'll have more time for reading. :)
Roger, I think you're the only team member I've read with before - I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Review: This is a book that was a series of actions sparking reactions. Starting with Ancient prophecy about the birth of who was to become prince Raine. Because of the Prophecy the King expected an alpha prince. But since Raine was an omega and his omega father died giving birth to him, Raine was hated. When Raine was old enough he was told he would have one season of the marriage circuit then if not married he would be sent to the priory. Stormshield was an island kingdom that the Airship stops as a refueling station, but was technically a valid stop for marriage, no Omegas before Raine ever left the ship. The King of Stormshield told his Three sons that one of them would have to marry the omega, who was keeping a secret, he was a self trained Alchemist. Which the kingdom needed badly.

Yes - we encourage romance as the reading material, but if someone has a biography or suspense book to read that isn't a 'romance', its OK to read. All the challenges are like that I think, other than the Bachelor (which MUST be MPG romance).
