Well, we know from watching the news that some people will believe anything. So, I wouldn't be surprised if the public would latch onto a tabloid reporter and believe anything they say. This is where I moved Bernard & Stephanie Crighton up on my suspect list. If you knew you were a suspect, why would you talk to a tabloid reporter unless you knew that the reporter would try to discredit her? If I was innocent of killing my nephew, I would keep saying that and not go to the press...especially to Paris Vickers.
Unfortunately, there are many people who thrive on the misery of others. Based on the kind of irresponsible, manipulative and even false reporting we see today, I would not be at all surprised if this happened in real life. "News" channels will do or say anything for ratings. @Robin - that's interesting. I became convinced it was one of them after the revelations of Robby Crighton's death. I can't remember if this was before or after the interview.
Before 24 hour news channels people believed the National Inquirer stories about aliens, monsters, etc. They would jump on a tabloid story about a cop and not doubt a thing. Most people like to believe the worst about people anyway. Today, with 24 hour news channels, ratings is more important than checking if a story is credible. They will run with any story to have viewers watch.
I suspected Bernard & Stephanie after this too. They reminded me of Scott Peterson when he did his interview. No credibility.
