What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I think the MC has an illness which is why her parents decide to move to a cottage. After finding a device on her bed which promises her a cure if she participates in an adventure she decides to run away. The night before she leaves her mother gives her a feather which the MC puts in her hair. Her first task is to go to a gallery or library where she finds rooms full of people fighting over different eggs, hers is the smallest and I think it was black (After it hatches, she calls it Maddox and she also cuts her hair because someone yanked the back with it). Later she gets drugged on a train and transported to the jungle where she teams up with other contestants Guy (the LI) and Liv who might have an elephant familiar, I’m not sure, but in book two she loses a finger to a snake bite. Another girl in their group has a pet bird. Later they are transported to a desert and in the last book they have to climb a mountain. I also remember that Guy never said “yes” but “yeah”, the MC almost dies because of a leech and Maddox can copy the other familiars.
