Nanette | 28 comments I admit that I do not limit my reading to clean reads, but I do have a few authors that I really like: Georgette Heyer (regency romances) and Orson Scott Card (Science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction) are a couple of my favorites.

Who are your favorites and what genres do they write in?

Heather (h-town) | 37 comments I absolutely love Susanna Kearsley. ANYTHING she has written. She writes Historical Fiction with an element of time travel that is just fantastic.

Natalie | 43 comments I like Josi Kilpack and Melanie Jacobson. Mystery and romance!

Angie The Librarian (angielibrarian) I agree with Heather! Susanna Kearsley is one of favorite historical fiction writers.

I have read Betsy Brannon Green. She has been one of my favorite authors. I also like Clair Poulson. Another would be Mary Higgins Clark. The books that I have read from these authors have been clean read mysteries and enjoyable.

Sheral | 12 comments I like Carla Kelly, her older regencies were fun to read.

I agree, Sonja. Betsy Brannon Green is also one of my favorites. You might also try Josi Kilpack's culinary mystery series with Sadie Hoffmiller. Quite delightful!

Nancy (readme) Thanks for suggestions of authors to try. I love/like these: Brandon Sanderson - science fiction and fantasy. Mary Higgins Clark - all her books use the same basic formula, but they are clean and some of them are quite good (I've read 14 of them). Jan Karon - I've only read her Mitford series. Imogen Robertson - these are mostly clean, historical fiction, maybe a couple of profanities and they deal with murders. Patricia Briggs - pretty clean fantasy/romance, despite the crazy cover art on her Mercy Thompson series, which is the only thing of hers I've read. Connie Willis - Science fiction. Jasper Fforde. What I've read of John Steinbeck has been pretty clean.

message 9: by Angie (new)

Angie The Librarian (angielibrarian) I wouldn't say that Jasper Fforde, at least his Thursday Next novels are clean. There are several characters that have, what could be considered by some to have, vulgar names.

message 10: by Naomi (new)

Naomi Bass | 12 comments I like Carla Kelly. She is an interesting author.
I also like Julianne Donaldson. She is very good.
I have enjoyed Ron Carter's series Prelude to Glory about the American revolution.

message 11: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (readme) Guess it's been too long since reading Fforde. Sorry about that. I think you could say the same thing about Card. At any rate, I just found out I am not supposed to be a member of this group. Sorry. Leaving now.

Nanette | 28 comments I think that sometimes that is the difficulty with recommending clean reads. I often don't notice, language, so I've recommended Fforde to someone and she was appalled at the language.

message 13: by Naomi (new)

Naomi Bass | 12 comments I also like Lynn Austin, Deeann Gist, and Siri Mitchell

Heather (h-town) | 37 comments I, too, do not limit my reading to "clean" reads. But in gleaning my bookshelves for "clean" authors to recommend, I am having difficulty remembering which are clean and how clean they are. I would love a discussion on what denotes "clean" in other fiction. I have dozens of questions/comments in that regard.

Oh, and I like Maria Semple and Shannon Hale. Both are hilarious.

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather (h-town) | 37 comments Ooh, Nancy Turner. Can't believe I forgot to mention her.

message 16: by Sonja (new)

Sonja | 9 comments I think that "clean" reads could mean - little swearing, intimacy issues are hardly mentioned and if they are it is very brief. I enjoy reading Betsy Brannon Green books. I think that they could qualify as clean reads. Her latest ones have been a little annoying in the beginning but the mystery is picking up and more enjoyable.

message 17: by Kira (new)

Kira (kiramoody) | 104 comments I like Josi Kilpack, Betsy Brannon Green, and Diane Mott Davidson.

message 18: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 3 comments I read the Mitford series by Jan Karon with never ending enthusiasm. These books are clean, since the main character is the priest in a small parish.
