I will be joining you for this week. I really enjoyed reading this when I was a teen, and am looking forward to revisiting it.
It is the only book on the lists that was even remotely appealing.
Was Sam Elliott in the mini series? I did not see it, But think I may pick it up to watch after reading the book.
The movie has Robert Duvall (Gus) and Tommy Lee Jones (Call) in the leads. It's got a great supporting cast too.
I just added the movie to my list with the library, as well as the book. This week is looking better all the time.
I read this not long ago and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. I added the movie to my netflix queue but haven't gotten to it yet ... glad to know it is worth the watch!
My library finally called me that the book was in and I read it in about 5 days. It is a great read that spans so many themes. I could relate to all of the characters, Gus's need to talk, Call's habit of separating himself from the group and Newt's confusion. There is a sequel and when I have time to read at leisure I will pick it up too.
This is not a book to read at speed,it really needs more than 5 to 7 days to full appreciate it.
The movie is now on my hold list at the library, and I hope it is in for this weekend. It will be interesting to see the differences, and how they deal with the nuances of character.
The mini-series is on Netflix as well if you have streaming capabilities. I think the mini series is slightly better than the book. I feel like it really fleshed out the characters and brought them to life. I haven't read any of the sequels.
I read this book a long time ago and really enjoyed it. Also the further adventures of Woodrow Call in The Streets of Laredo is another good read. Got a bit emotional in the mini-series version of Lonesome Dove.

I picked this book because I LOVE the mini-series and have wanted to read the book for a long time. It's the book/topic I'm currently reading and so far it's an easy read. I have heard that it differs from the movie but so far there haven't been too many differences. I plan on re-watching the mini-series when I'm done :)
