Discussion day is here.

Feel free to share your reviews, try the 3 questions listed below, ask questions of your own, or simply sit back and see what others have to say. This discussion will remain open indefinitely.

1) Do you consider yourself an equine enthusiast or equestrian? What are your thoughts on the breeding of racehorses?

2) Near the end of the book, the mystery evolves into a crime thriller. Did you figure out the mystery before the answers started to reveal themselves? If you didn’t read the book, what is a mystery you figured out before the reveal?

3) Any books, TV shows, or movies about horse racing you’d recommend?

Toi Thomas (toithomas) | 213 comments Started- almost finished.

I'll be curious to see if other readers were previously experienced with the world of horse racing. This is all new to me.

Toi Thomas (toithomas) | 213 comments 1) I'm an animal lover, which includes horses, but not sure I have to temperament to get into horse racing. I do enjoy watching the Kentucky Derby each year. As far as breeding goes, don't think I know enough about it to even comment.

2) I picked up on a few things going on, but ultimately this mystery stumped me. It was not a humorous book in any way but I t almost felt like it had a Scooby-do ending, which people not being who you thought they were.

3) Not sure it really counts, but I'm a sucker for a classic. International Velvet is a good film to watch with the family.

Ronel Janse van Vuuren (miladyronel) | 71 comments My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

1) I'm an equine enthusiast. Just as with dogs, reputable breeders only when thinking of buying horses to ride on. Mine are, of course, adopted :-) As for the whole racehorse thing: I'm not going to go into how badly those horses are abused (except for: injected with so many drugs to perform, being broken to do a master's bidding, discarded when they don't perform as expected, so high-strung and skittish when being rehabilitated after their time on the track that some equestrians I know refuse to go near them for fear of injury, etc.).
2) As I expected a thriller from the start, the pacing didn't work for me as explained in my review, so I DNFed it.
3) I recently watched "Dakota's Summer" which is about trick riding, a bit about taking care of miniature horses, and a feel-good family story through-out.

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 36 comments I started this and got distracted by library books (the kind with due dates...). I'm not a huge fan of thrillers, so I'm good with it more as a mystery, and am intrigued by the characters so far. I don't know squat about the horse world, and I'm with Toi--National Velvet was a great book/movie :)

I also had issues with the pacing, which I mentioned in my review. Just realized I forgot to share it, so here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
