I have multiple attempted books that I have mentally assigned to August for another try. But I have been wondering if any of the books on Mt. TBR are about 2nd chances. Might have to add them to the list of possibilities.
I went with the main character having a second chance at working after taking time away to be a mom. This particular person was a pirate before she retired. I read The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty. It's a fun fantasy romp with djinni, ancient magics, pirate ships and more.
I wasn't sure what to pick for this one, but I've been reading some light romancey kinds of books lately just for something different. After I finished it, I realized that Ghosts fits the prompt. The main character is ghosted by a man she really (and thinks he likes her too) and has to decide whether to give him another shot.
The one that I got finished in August that was a former failed attempt was Farewell Speeches by Barack and Michelle Obama. I attempted to read it too early in the Trump fiasco and I just couldn't.I started another one that I had failed to read before -- Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine -- but I did not finish the audiobook in August.
One of the books I read would fit this category, however -- The Road to Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson, where he re-explores England as a tribute to the 20th anniversary of Notes from a Small Island.

I might have to try that one. That's the same author as The City of Brass, right? I liked the beginning of that one a lot.

I had picked up Tea and Dark Chocolate some months ago to fit a challenge prompt but ended up reading something else for that. So in August I picked it up again for the Roll Your Next Read summer dice challenge, keyword "drink." It was an odd mish-mash of flash fiction and poetry and excerpts from longer works. None of which were about tea or chocolate.
Technically, The Only One Left was Mr. Ritter's fourth chance with me. I finished Home Before Dark a few years ago for a book club and should probably demote its 3-star rating to 2 stars because wow, the man needed a continuity editor. And this book was actually better than that one, and I felt like my 2-star rating was generous. I do not understand the appeal.
In between these two, I attempted Survive the Night and The House Across the Lake but DNFed both of them very quickly.
