For a “4”: Did I…. • Write a topic sentence that provided the claim and important text information, such as the title, author, and genre of my text? • Provide background of what is happening in the text so my reader understands what I’m talking about? Did I say what was happening at the time of the quote/evidence? • Find evidence from the text that proves that the change was important? • Paraphrase (This shows....) and then analyze how my quote proves my claim ("This proves that ____________________was an important moment because.../This interested me because..../I disliked this because..../This changed my point of view because.....)? • Write a conclusion sentence that restates your claim in a different way?
If I had to give my protagonist advice on the book The Orange House by Paul Griffin a realistic fiction novel. It would be to not give up because she is alone and trying really hard to survive. For example in the book she is alone and that it says "Fatima, sixteen living alone? Mom said that wont do I'm-a ask around for the church for a place."(40) This shows that Fatima is having a hard time in life and that this advice for her would be helpful and that it can give her motivation on trying to do things harder. This proves that the advice as really helpful because it shows her not to give up. It also resembles her because she lost one of her fingers and that she is still trying hard. Therefor, the advice for the protagonist is helpful for her and that it also matches her as a person who keeps trying and not giving up.
If I had to give advice to Rose from the sci-fi/fantasy book, Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead, it would be before you say something, think about how you would feel if someone said it to you. Rose Hathaway is a teenage dhampir who is trying to save all Strigoi and specifically Dimitri. Adrian is worried about helping her girlfriend find her ex-boyfriend and he's also afraid that Rose is going to leave him for Dimitri if she finds him again. Rose states talking to her boyfriend Adrian, "I don't know. We're just taking this one step at a time. I love being with you. Really. But I cant ignore this." (157) This shows that Rose doesn't feel the same way with Adrian when she was with Dimitri and that she still has feelings for him. This proves that Rose would actually Adrian for Dimitri especially since that was her first love as she states in Blood Promise. Overall, the advice I would give to my protagonist would be about hurting someone's feelings.
In Edward Bloor's realistic fiction novel, Tangerine, Paul Fisher, the protagonist, Paul Fisher, does not like the place that he moved to, which is Tangerine, Florida. He is constantly being harassed by his brother, Erik, and he was being bullied at school. Some advice that I would give to Paul is to speak up for yourself. Tell the people who are bothering you to stop. If they do not stop, tell someone and that person will partially take care of the problem. Therefore, Paul states "I've always been afraid of Erik. No I get to be afraid of Erik and Arthur." (42). This shows that Paul is afraid of people at his school, including his brother. This is good advice because if you do not speak up for yourself, they will keep on bothering you. Overall, Paul should advocate for himself and stand up for himself against the bullies.
In the book Sold by Patricia Mccormick a realistic fiction novel what the author wanted his readers to understand is that not every body in the world has seen a bus in there lives or can afford to ride one. For example in the text it said " the cart we're riding on is called a bus. I don't know this for certain."(67) This shows that the author was trying to show the reader that not every body in the world has seen a bus before or has ride on one before. This proves that the author wanted his readers to understand that she is a poor girl and that she came from a poor family and a poor village because she lives in the mountains. Therefor, the author was showing that there are poor people in this world who don't get the same things that we do in a regular bases like riding a bus to school.
In the book, Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead , the author is trying to tell me that Dimitri is willing to kill Rose just because that she's trying to get the strigoi out of him but at the end of day, Dimitri warned Rose and old her not come because she would end up getting her self killed in the end. Especially, he was doing her favor because Rose was Dimitri's first love but couldn't be together because Dimitri's a strigoi. Eddie (Rose friend) states, "Every day Dimitri walks the world is another day that people are going to die. (184) This shows why Rose and her friends were so determined on killing Dimitri because he is dangerous. This proves that Dimitri doesn't understand why Rose is trying to kill him because if he did then he would let her. Therefore, Rose is trying to kill Dimitri because he's dangerous.
