Out of all the books selected for this year, "Shadowspawn" by Andrew Offutt is likely the dark horse candidate. I tried to capture a wide genre of books for the year, but I know science fiction/fantasy can be a hard sell for some folks. That being said, I think it's also good to get out of one's literary comfort zone and read something new, or something you might not have found yourself reading otherwise.
