This is the discussion area for the Buddy Read of

The Huntress by Kate Quinn

We will start reading this book on April 6th.

Please feel free to join in and read with us at any time :)

Description:
In the aftermath of war, the hunter becomes the hunted…

Bold and fearless, Nina Markova always dreamed of flying. When the Nazis attack the Soviet Union, she risks everything to join the legendary Night Witches, an all-female night bomber regiment wreaking havoc on the invading Germans. When she is stranded behind enemy lines, Nina becomes the prey of a lethal Nazi murderess known as the Huntress, and only Nina’s bravery and cunning will keep her alive.

Transformed by the horrors he witnessed from Omaha Beach to the Nuremberg Trials, British war correspondent Ian Graham has become a Nazi hunter. Yet one target eludes him: a vicious predator known as the Huntress. To find her, the fierce, disciplined investigator joins forces with the only witness to escape the Huntress alive: the brazen, cocksure Nina. But a shared secret could derail their mission unless Ian and Nina force themselves to confront it.

Growing up in post-war Boston, seventeen-year-old Jordan McBride is determined to become a photographer. When her long-widowed father unexpectedly comes homes with a new fiancée, Jordan is thrilled. But there is something disconcerting about the soft-spoken German widow. Certain that danger is lurking, Jordan begins to delve into her new stepmother’s past—only to discover that there are mysteries buried deep in her family . . . secrets that may threaten all Jordan holds dear.

In this immersive, heart-wrenching story, Kate Quinn illuminates the consequences of war on individual lives, and the price we pay to seek justice and truth.

It doesn't matter how many books I read about this time in history, I have a hard time understanding how people can justify being cruel to someone else.

I know! I don't understand how something like the Holocaust was even allowed to happen. Why didn't someone stand up and say/do something to stop it?

I don't know if you've read any other books by this author, but all of her stories that I've read so far are based around real people, including this one. The story itself is fictionalized, but the people and/or main events in the story are real. I always think it's neat to tell stories of people who were forgotten or never really given the credit for everything they did during the war.

Exactly! I just don't understand it. I know that evil is real and those people were truly evil.

Nina is spunky. She is a very interesting character. I like Jordan. I feel sorry for her. She knew something wasn't right. It costed her dad's life. The Huntress made not have killed him herself, but she had something to do with it. I'm worried for Jordan and Ruth.

I like Nina. She would have to have some spunk to grow up like she did and survive.

I agree that she probably had something to do with his death. It would be hard being a child and no one believing you or listening to you. That seems to happen a lot. I wonder who Ruth really is.

That is for sure. Can you imagine your father trying to drown you as a child? That was crazy!

I was wondering about Ruth, too.

Finished. I love the story. I like Nina and Ian together. Ruth will have some things to deal with when she's older, but she has a happy ending.

I'm almost finished. Jordan just found out about her Stepmom. It is crazy how evil is rationalized.

Finished. I loved it. I thought Nina and Ian make a great team. Glad they were able to work it out. Loved Jordan! She was definitely wise beyond her years. I felt bad that she blamed herself for her father's death. Poor Ruth! She definitely had a very rough start to her life. Jordan was very good for her.
