Dan | 1611 comments Carrie Laben is an author with a work that has featured before as our read of the month. It's the only novel so far that she has published: A Hawk in the Woods (2019). Ms. Laben has a website, but it looks like she does not update it anymore: https://carrielaben.com/

Besides the novel, ISFDB lists seventeen short stories she has published:

Something in the Mermaid Way (2007)
Invasive Species (2009)
Plastic Sargasso (2010)
Face Like a Monkey (2010)
And Neither Have I Wings to Fly (2011)
Underneath Me, Steady Air (2011)
Bad Penny (2013)
The Fledglings of Time (2013)
A Shot of Fireball (2014)
The Lightning Tree (2014)
Postcards from Natalie (2016)
Take Flight (2017)
Augerino (2018)
Sea Glass (2018)
The Crying Bride (2019)
Wild Dogs (2019)
The Van Etten House (2021)

Where these stories were published can all be found on her ISFDB page: https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?.... The story that interests me in reading next is "The Van Etten House" (2021). It's her only publication so far this decade. The story appears in the January 2021 issue of The Dark, which also contains other stories. It's a very reasonable $2.99 to acquire the eBook. The only downside is that the anthology is available only in Kobo eReader format. That's different than Kindle format. I did some research and found out that Kobo is starting to challenge Amazon's eReader dominance. Yay! I've ordered a Kobo so that I can read this story first. Then, I will go on to other Kobo books I imagine.

Here's where you can find Carrie Laben's latest story, if you're interested: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-.... The ISBN is 9781393027232 and three people on GoodReads reviewed it: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5.... I swear, neither Kobo, The Dark, nor Ms. Laben are paying me a commission! If you want to join in with me, I plan to start reading the story May 4. That's my birthday, when I get my Kobo, and when I will make my first purchase for it. I bet Laben's story will be worth it. She has a good reputation for being able to write a wonderful short story.
