This book is different but its called Monster by Walter Dean Meyers. Its written like a movie script and I am almost finished with it.
Five very different books that give the whole package - excellent writing, clever plotting and well-defined characters.Northanger Abbey, by Jane Austen
The Twickenham Peerage, by Richard Marsh
Anne of Green Gables, by LM Montgomery
Harvest Home, by Thomas Tryon
The Cellar, by Minette Walters
Northanger Abbey is a satire of what had been called "gothic novels", 18th century novels of suspense and romance, usually involving a young girl navigating a strange environment. On a visit to a popular resort, 18-year--old Catherine views the world through the lens of the popular novels that are her obsession.
The Twickenham Peerage - A heir had disappeared years ago and his poor relations can't inherit his fortune until he's officially declared dead, so they try to convince a carnival performer/lookalike who can mimic death to persuade officials that A) he's the missing man, and B) the missing man has died.
Anne of Green Gables - An aging brother and sister living in turn-of-the century Prince Edward Island decide to adopt a boy to help with the farm chores and through a mix-up get a girl - a homely, highly imaginative girl - instead. Several sequels. One of the great characters of YA fiction.
Harvest Home - A couple with a 16-year-old severely asthmatic daughter leave the big city for a rural town with some very strange customs. Scary page turner with a shock ending - before Stephen King, there was Thomas Tryon - sadly, Tryon died, having written only a few books.
The Cellar - Almost as scary as Harvest Home. A seemingly upscale couple - well-off African immigrants living in England - keep a teenage servant girl in the cellar. The disappearance of the couple's son is the beginning of a wicked tables-turning plot by the girl who proves more than a match for the couple.
