I've read the Home Theatre short story collection which I really enjoyed! Also read the memoir Grand last year. Both very well written and interesting.
I'm keen to read The Axeman's Carnival and Better the Blood :)

I just didn't feel the same level of excitement that I usually do when I looked at the nominees this year, But, like Erica, I have heard good things about The Axeman's Carnival & I will read whichever poetry book my local library has decided to buy - I have found some really good poets that way.
My favourite section is always the illustrated non-fiction & I have always enjoyed Nick Bollinger's writing so I am going to read Jumping Sundays: The Rise and Fall of the Counterculture in Aotearoa New Zealand The seventies are my era & I would have loved to be a teen in the sixties. Since my library has this one & I am a sucker for a good cover I may get to I am Autistic: An interactive and informative guide to autism
I mean look at that cover!!!
I love Wellington so much I may read Empire City: Wellington Becomes the Capital of New Zealand
Yup... so only excited about Jumping Sundays really.

I will be reading Jumping Sundays - & my local library has both poetry winners, so i will get to them at some point. Same for The English Text of the Treaty of Waitangi (Erica, this looks like it could be what you were looking for a while back!)
I'm not so sure I will get to The Axeman's Carnival. I read The Lucky Galah a few months ago for a challenge in this group - that might do me for talking birds for (quite) a while!

The Treaty book looks so large and intimidating! haha. Maybe one day. I've got The Axeman's Carnival and hoping to read very soon. Was happy to see Home Theatre short story collection win an award :)

I also read The Lucky Galah for the bookpool challenge and found it surprisingly ok, so I'm up for The Axeman at some point in the near future. There's an older novel about keas, Beak of the Moon by Philip Temple that I never managed to get into.
I think, for me, that some of these things are gimmicks. For example, I would (at the most) read one diary or epistolatory novel a year.
