What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This book is about a kid going to school during a disaster, more specifically, a nuclear winter-type scenario. It mentions the dad getting rationed gas and him going to school, trying to blend in even though he doesn't have the same clothes as some of the more wealthy or high-class students. He has to shower at school and eat since his family struggles in a cabin by a river. I believe that the cover has a cabin in the snow with a yellow text box across the front that looks like it was torn or something along those lines. I am trying to find this book for my younger cousin, I read it in middle school but couldn't find it at the library. Please help because I am at my wit's end. Thanks for reading my post.
