In category:

The Potato Factory (The Potato Factory, #1) by Bryce Courtenay

I shouldn't have been surprised this was very good, because Bryce Courtenay is an extremely good writer. Extra points for including dickens and The Artful Dodger as cameos :D

Not in Category:

About Time (The Time Police #4) by Jodi Taylor

I think I might actually enjoy the Time Police books even more than the St Mary's ones. Would be perfect if there was more Markham...

MY MONTHLY RECOMMENDATION (and why):
In category Pan's Labyrinth The Labyrinth of the Faun by Guillermo del Toro Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun
If you enjoyed the movie you will enjoy the book. It adds a little more to the stories and allows you to see some of the things that were cut from the full movie. Written by Gillermo Del Torro it really shows that 2 different levels of story tell can merge together really well allowing for interactive growth within the main tale. I highly recommend everyone gives it a read as really has some interesting insights into personalities.

out of category Tree of Aeons by spaizzzer Tree of Aeons: An Isekai LitRPG Adventure
It is strange I never thought a book about someone who was reborn as a tree would be interesting. However he became a tree that wanted to protect those from his village he cared for. It was sweet, full of action, demons, revenge and a rather meditative early tree perspective balance. I listened to this during a stressful time in the month and it provided a continuous measure of peace and enjoyment allowing me cope. I am really looking forward to book 2.

Red, White & Royal Blue

Honestly I didn't love a lot of books in this category and the ones I chose I actually liked the movie better than the book. The one exception of course is Red White and Royal Blue since it hasn't released yet (I don't think). If you like LGBTQ romances you will probably enjoy this. The audiobook is quite good.

Melindam | 8516 comments I have started Mrs Harris Goes to Paris & Mrs Harris Goes to New York by Paul Gallico and loving it.
(It actually reminds me of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, which I also love. )

There is a strong feeling of an Aged and working-class Cinderella going to a fancy ball and meeting fairy godmothers and turning out to be a fairy godmother herself. Of course it is complete wish-fulfillment in a way, but I just don't care.

So far, it has proven to be a perfect comfort read for me. In these crazy times I need books like this where I know that everything will turn out all right. 🥰

Melindam | 8516 comments Finished Mrs Harris Goes to Paris & Mrs Harris Goes to New York by Paul Gallico and I am so glad I finally read them.

The Paris story was pure 5 stars for me. Despite the unlikely scenario and the light, romcom-ish story, the writing and the characters deeply resonated with me and it became a favourite read right on finishing.

I will also try and watch the movie sometime with Leslie Manville (apparently, it was mostly filmed in Budapest, masquerading as Paris).

The 2nd story was 3-3,5 stars, but only because it paled in comparison with the 1st. Otherwise it was also lovely and entertaining. 😍

He was really good. I thought he went between the US and UK accents quite well - no cringeworthy moments of accent attempts! Also had me believing in the romance which can be hard with audio when it is the same narrator playing both parts sometimes
