2023 Team Challenges

Summer Days Sign-Ups and General Questions (by May 20th)
As always, we will release the team names as soon as we have a certain number of sign-ups!update: All team names have been posted!
I'm in. I would like to be in a group. I have been averaging over 200 books a year lately. I will note that I will be traveling for about half the challenge, 2 work trips and a friend's wedding in Ireland. Do flights balance out busy schedules and reduced access to specific books?
Thanks to Faith for taking on the challenge and welcome to Laurel to start on a team!
I'd like to be in a team please! So far I've been reading ~90-100 books a year, though I'm a little behind right now lol
I would like to join in a group too! I only have the stats from last year, I read 61 books last year although I haven't be on track since this month was full of exams :)
Hi! I don’t know what’s happening here but I think I want to participate! I’m on pace for 20-25 books this year
I will definitely sign up for this one - to be in a group! I read about 100 books on average a year but I am starting school in May again for the first time in a couple years so that may slow me down a little bit.
Erica wrote: "Hi! I don’t know what’s happening here but I think I want to participate! I’m on pace for 20-25 books this year"Welcome! We do these challenges (what we call big games to differentiate from the other challenges we do as a GR group) twice a year: this year is summer and then again in winter. Next year we will do spring and fall! You can either join a team or do the challenge solo. The goal is to read books that match the category tasks and earn points for each book read! There are opportunities for bonus points by reading the group read or buddy reads :) Let me or any of the other mods know if you need help!
Reminder to please specify if you want to be in a team or go solo! If you don't specify, I'm going to assume you want to join a team.
I would like to join a team. I'm a bit slower reading this year (only 33 finished to date) but I expect to get at least 15 books read during those two months (hopefully more).QQ: the last challenge of the last category - do your teen years count as "childhood"?

I say yes! As long as it was foundational for you and was before you completed secondary education, I'd count it.
The first 3 team names are unlocked!!The Awesome Audiophiles
The Vinyl Victors
The Noble Napsters
We have 2 other teams waiting in the queue that I think you guys will love 😉
Also, we currently have no one who wants to go solo! 😮 So we also don't know what the soloists are called yet!
Hmm, unsure how many I'll be able to complete with the other challenges I'm trying to take on this summer but I'd like to join solo!
I would love to participate in a group, I read 20-30 books a year. I will most likely be somewhat busy this summer unfortunately but I'll try my best!!
i'd like to be in a group, i read 20-30 books a year. i won't be at home a lot this june but i will try to participate as much as possible.

Can you both please indicate how many books you read in a year (an average or estimate is fine)? Melissa, can you also tell me whether you want to be on a team or go solo?
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉We've unlocked ALL of the teams!!
The Spotify Stans
The Incredible iTunes
Soloists: The Misunderstood Artists
Some of the teams are a bit lopsided or overpowered, so if you know anyone in the group (or have a friend who isn't in the group but would love to participate), then invite them to join! We still have 5 DAYS until SUMMER DAYS begins!
I'd like to join a group and I read about 20 books a year <3I haven't read much this year bc of exams but now they're finished :))

Summer Days approaches!! Pop in your earbuds and play your favorite beach tunes 🎵🎶
This is my first time taking over the big games for Laurel and I am super excited! I hope you like the theme I picked :)
HOW TO JOIN
1. Reply to this thread with "I want to participate in a group" or "I want to participate by myself," and the number of books you read/listen to each year (this isn't to judge your reading habits but to attempt to create balanced teams).
2. The deadline to join a team is May 20th
3. Anyone can join Summer Days as long as the competition lasts, but after May 20th all newcomers will be soloists.
RULES
✧ Members will be broken out into up to 3-5 separate teams (or go solo) before the start date (June 1st). You will work together to complete a series of tasks together and complete as many of them as you wish.
✧ Books must be read and reviewed from June 1st through July 31st. Any books or audiobooks started before June 1st or finished after July 31st will not count.
✧ If you read an Audiobook version of a book convert the hours to pages using this site: https://alamantus.itch.io/time-to-page or use the print equivalent on Goodreads.
✧ Graphic/Manga novels are accepted but will only count for half of the listed page count. They have to be on the Goodreads database. (view spoiler)[Recent changes to the Goodreads database rules restrict webcomics from being on the site unless they have a printed edition. (hide spoiler)]
✧ You must post at least 3 status updates OR a review. It doesn't have to be super detailed but try to not just say "this was good" for the book to count.
✧ For prompts: if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit, and it will not count.
✧ Minimum Lengths:
• Books: 150 pages
• Graphic Novels: 200 pages (halved=100 pages)
• Audiobooks: 150 pages (use GR print equivalent length)
POINT SYSTEM
+1 point for every book that has been read and reviewed that correlates with a category
+2 points for participating in a buddy read (must take place in the group)
+3 for one completed category
+4 points for reading/participating in a group read (must take place in the group)
+5 points for every 1,000 pages read
Note 1: Mods keep track of all points in a shared Google Sheets spread to keep everything as organized as possible.
Note 2: You must actively participate in a buddy or group read for the points to count. Lack of participation means no points! This means commenting your updates in the designated thread for that book.
