Lukasali | 4 comments So - what are your thoughts/observations/questions/hypotheses about Auri? Having read both books twice (as well as the SRoST) it is pretty clear that she is very important. I know what I think about her but I'd like to hear from others - as we all know these books are so rich and subtle that it is probably impossible for any one person to catch everything.

Hayden Johansen (Hayd) | 72 comments I don't think the black tower is actually a tower.. The Amyr stand as a force of the good of all or utilitarianism.. Utilitarianism uses the symbol of a flame inside the Holy Grail. I believe this is the true image of the Amyr and that the tower symbolizes the grail seeing as Myr Taryniel is the holy city of Tamerant(hoy city:Holy grail)
• Seeing as red hair signifies the flame and Kvothe presents this trait it would prove Kvothe to be the natural born leader of the Amyr.
In Hespe's story of the beggar and the Edema Ruh, the Ruh light a fire in the pit centered in Greystones in Fair Taryniel(where all roads meet but isn't reached by traveling). Circles(circle of Greystones in the center of Myr Taryniel) are used for ritual purposes in many religions.
I’m guessing the fire in the pit resembles the goblet and the overall purpose the Edama Ruh(Ademre/Maedre) stand for and that by the beggar joining them he stands for their purpose.
Though the already present Ciridae, present in Hespe’s story would stand to counter this belief I have another conclusion. Since the ciridae were backed by the church I believe the Edema Ruh to be the existing schism variant of Tehlinism(Mender herisies faction that Lorren tells Kvothe about at the end of WMF) that branched off to serve the true purpose of Amyr. Together, with their knowing of all stories of the world, they would use this knowledge to sing songs of power to bring justice to all who deserve it. “For the greater good.”
• Continuing this theory, there is the poisoned chalice. That though during the experience of a good action or thing it is perceived as good, it is later found as bad.
One of Pat's idols of poetry, William Shakespeare, wrote the act Macbeth, based on the poisoned chalice, opening scene is as follows:
“But in these cases
We still have judgment here; that we but teach
Bloody instructions, which, being taught, return
To plague the inventor: this even-handed justice
Commends the ingredients of our poison'd chalice
To our own lips.”
This would justify the story of Lanre and Selitos and Lanre’s actions during the war and then ontop the mountain.
Lanre is seen to be beyond reproach before or during the war(True Ciridae), until night falls, selitos is binded and realizes he is poisoned (Cthaeh’s poisonous words).
This would also clarify the existence of Chandrian in the Tehlin Church and reason for the Amyr being disbanded.
The true Amyr would branch off(Ademre – then further parting into Edema Ruh because of difference in musical importance in society) leaving Haliax to be the dictation of what the church perceives as good and the Amyr as bad. Thus, reason for the justice/judge of the Tehlin Church in the bar to be angry that Skarpi would paint Selitos as the hero and Lanre as an enemy.
Next, I assume Kvothe is born and Ben and Skarpi see in his heart or even his features (True red hair) that he is the redeemer born again to seek true justice in the world. Thus, they instill in him knowledge and power of the world necessary to carry out this purpose.

I figure since Kvothe is believed to be Andan/Savien/Illien, then Auri would be Ordal/Aloine and together their love and desire to mend the world will be used in Book 3 to strike down the enemy and mend the world.

Hayden Johansen (Hayd) | 72 comments This would also clarify your assumption that Skapi is Sceop in the Skarpi thread, he would be the beggar in Hespe's story seeing as he is still in the same status(In a bar living off others coin by telling stories - Edema Ruh's original occupancy), still standing for the same purpose and possessing oddly coloured eyes that clearly sets characters apart in this world..

Lukasali | 4 comments Interesting - I hadn't come across the idea that Kvothe = Andan before, although I did notice the similarities between Auri and Ordal. Have people talked about this much already? I am late to the game...

Hayden Johansen (Hayd) | 72 comments Haha yeah A LOT. There's actually a theory that clearly pins every character to each angel/Ruach person lol . I suggest that if you are truly interested in knowing every single hidden sign ever placed in the book search Patrick rothfuss reread on tor.com it's hosted by Jo Walton a famous author and fan of Pats. She's got every character speculation, also look at the timeline link first, then images, and card review to date.. The day I found it I fell in love with the mysteries hidden in plain sight.. The lack less riddle for one lol. Check it out your life will change. I suggest after the timeline and card you should start with name of the wind thread 1 and work all the way through the pages then check the comments out because usually the comments hold more answers than Jo's analysis's but she still nails down some clear points. Enjoy!
