We were the richer for his presence and will be the poorer for his absence.

message 2: by Kevan (new)

Kevan Dinn (kevandinn) Thank you, Mr Pratchett. You gave us days and days of reading pleasure, while teaching us how to laugh at ourselves. RIP.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Sad.

Sounds like he finished his last book.

message 4: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments And the short story collection is getting a US release this spring. Still, we now live in a world of finite Pratchett, which is infinitely worse than a world of unlimited Pratchett.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 167 comments Boohoo:(

I recall the first Discworld. I was on the tube and I was laughing so much I had tears rolling down my face. Everyone was staring at me like I was mad.

Thank you for the words Mr Pratchett. The world will be a darker place for your passing.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments He brought joy to a lot of people. Very sad to hear. :( I read a handful of his books. I always felt mixed about them, but I'm starting to warm up to the Discworld universe.

message 7: by Yordan (last edited Mar 12, 2015 12:29PM) (new)

Yordan Zhelyazkov (yordanzh) The world won't be darker - he made sure of that. His books are so rich and colourful that I can and will reread them again and again. And I'll still love them and laugh and cry with them.
Thank you sir Terry Pratchett!

message 8: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Honestly, the first few Discworld books were, well, just kind of OK at best. But sometime in the upper single digits or lower double digits he really started to hit his stride.

Personal favorites include (but are not limited to) Lords and Ladies (or just about any of the Witches/Granny Weatherwax books), Hogfather, Monstrous Regiment and the entire Tiffany Aching series, beginning with The Wee Free Men.

(Speaking of which, I was very happy to hear that he apparently finished the fifth Tiffany Aching book, so there'll be that to look forward to this fall.)

That is sad.

message 10: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelly_) One of my favourite authors, I will miss him

message 11: by Pemry (new)

Pemry Janes I still remember reading the first Discworld book, one of the funniest stories I've ever read and most of the competition is from his hand as well.

He'll be missed.

message 12: by Lára (new)

Lára | 479 comments Never read anything by him, but still to lose an author must be tragic. I´m not qualified for epithets, so I refuse to write one (not that you would like my sense of humour anyway).

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 167 comments I love anything with Death and Vimes in. Rincewind too

message 14: by Nigel (new)

Nigel Percy Ooook!

I read quite a few but then stopped, no reason why. Will have to read another.

message 16: by Elpida (new)

Elpida He will be missed. But our world gained Granny Weatherwax and Vimes, among so many others.

message 17: by Cherie (new)

Cherie | 41 comments just a sad loss for the world of fantasy - sigh

message 18: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Moore I was hit hard by the death of Terry Pratchett. I'm still lost for words. So I'll simply repeat some of Terry's.

“No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away.” [Terry Pratchett]

message 19: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 167 comments It will be a long time until his ripples are gone.

I believe he will live on through his books for years and years, generations and generations.............

Well, if the queue at the library is any indication he won't soon be forgotten. The wait time for his The Color of Magic (Discworld Book 1) is at least 6 months! (Haven't checked the others.)

It seems that even though Sir Pratchett is no longer with us he still has a lot to say. The Shepherd's Crown is a recently published book, in addition The Compleat Discworld Atlas will soon be published and according to Pratchett's assistant Rob Wilkins, Pratchett had written "an awful lot" of unfinished writing, "10 titles I know of and fragments from many other bits and pieces. "In the past, Pratchett himself mentioned at least two texts, "Scouting for Trolls" and a Discworld novel centering on a new character" Just kind of a FYI for all the Prachett fans out there.

message 25: by Wastrel (new)

Wastrel | 136 comments His daughter, though, said that it was unlikely they'd publish any of his unfinished work, and that The Shepherd's Crown was his last book. Unless maybe they found something finished locked away somewhere, but it seems unlikely.

I believe, unless it's destroyed, that one day it will be published. It may not be anytime soon but, like the new Dr. Seuss book, one day is will come out.

message 27: by Famine (new)

Famine (wolfcreed) I need to do a reread of Pratchett's works. Miss him so much.

message 28: by L.G. (new)

L.G. Estrella | 138 comments I wouldn't be surprised to see the unfinished work come out once they'd had a chance to go through it properly.

This may not be a new Discworld book but it is a new Terry Pratchett one: The Witch's Vacuum Cleaner: And Other Stories. I just added to my TBR list.

Well darn it. I should have read what the book was before I posted this....it's a kid's book. I may still read it but it was a real let down when I found out what it was.

message 31: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 815 comments Some of his best work was children's books. I think Only You Can Save Mankind is his very best.

Thanks Mary, I put it on my TBR list also.
