Carolyn | 180 comments I've read a few thrillers set in Iceland (such as Jar City by Arnaldur Indriðason), but this is the only historical I can think of that I read and enjoyed recently. It's set in 18th century Iceland and based on a real female captain of a fishing boat.

Woman, Captain, Rebel The Extraordinary True Story of a Daring Icelandic Sea Captain by Margaret Willson Woman, Captain, Rebel: The Extraordinary True Story of a Daring Icelandic Sea Captain by Margaret Willson

Hope you have a great trip!

Thank you so much for mentioning Woman, Captain, Rebel ,
Carolyn. I've put it on hold at the library.

Carolyn | 180 comments I hope you enjoy it Shomeret. I love history based on real characters, especially fascinating women like this.

Margaret Willson | 1 comments Carolyn, so glad you enjoyed the book! I myself was blown away by Thurídur’s (Þuríður since you yourself wrote Icelandic letters….) life—her strength—physical and mental—through her many adventures, and her compassion. To Shomeret—if you end up going to South Iceland, you can visit Stokkseyri, the community where Thurídur spent much of her life, see the reconstructed fishing hut dedicated to her and the shore from where she fished. It’s only about ten miles from the main Highway 1. Have a wonderful time! I am sure you will. Margaret

Ana Santos (acsantos) | 2 comments The Creak on the Stairs by Eva Björg Ægisdóttir
The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea
Last Rituals by Yrsa Sigurdardottir - there's a whole series, plus several stand-alones. I actually found this one while standing in a store in Iceland back in 2018. I went back last year. It's such an incredible place.
