Cheryl (cherylllr) No theme this month. Look to other threads in this folder for suggestions, or maybe to the polls for books that got a lot of votes but didn't win.

No self-published; please try to choose something that should be easy to find in libraries or resellers. If it's in multiple formats, that will make more readers happy, too.

Stipulated that the person who nominates will lead the discussion if their choice wins. But don't be concerned! All that means is that you read the book within the first part of the month (if you've not already) so you're ready for discussion, that you have a couple of observations or insights or questions to share throughout the month, and that you respond to at least some of the comments from others.

Harv Griffin | 83 comments What about The Girl, The Gold Watch, And Everything by John D. MacDonald?

One of my favorite John D. MacDonald novels. And it is about a kind of time travel.

I almost gave up on it a third on the way in, because the hero was such a "loser." But Zowie! He kicks serious ass in the second half of the novel. I've re-read it several times.

Pat of Rocks | 70 comments is Sea of Tranquility a time travel book? I just read Station Eleven last month, and I'd like to read more by the author. Sea of Tranquility is definitely on my short list.

Definitely TT from what I can tell, and it's on my to read list so I would vote for this.

Cheryl (cherylllr) (I'll have to remember to add the 'losers' to the 'not read yet' thread.)

Cheryl (cherylllr) We really should have more than two picks. How about Time and Time Again by Ben Elton? It got quite a lot of votes in a previous BotM poll.

message 9: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I just discovered that How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe is (or has) TT so I'm nominating that, too.

Both of 'my' nominees are fairly new (but not brand-new) and should be readily avl. at your libraries in a variety of formats.

message 10: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I should be posting this poll pretty soon, so please get your nominations in asap. Thank you!

message 11: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ok, we're stuck at four! Off to create the poll now!

message 12: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Ok it's ready; get your votes in Asap please!

Art (artfink02) | 100 comments How about "A Lady Out Of Time", by caroline Hanson?

Art (artfink02) | 100 comments Suggestions for another month?
{or have you already read these?}
A Bridge Through Time - Jennae Vale
Daughter of Time - Sarah Woodbury
Out Of The Past - Dana Roquet
Enemy of Mine - Red L. Jameson
Time Travel Adventures of the 1800 Club

message 15: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Hi Art! The poll is up, but I should be starting a 'choosing for August' thread soon. Be sure to nominate your favorite there! In the meantime, it'd be great if you add these to the thread "not yet read by the group" in this folder. Thanks!

message 16: by Art (new)

Art (artfink02) | 100 comments Thanks, Cheryl.
Is the 'previous books read' list searchable?

message 17: by Cheryl (last edited Jun 10, 2023 06:10PM) (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) The bookshelf? Honestly, I don't know. Sort by title or author?

But I have not been adding books to it since I've been helping to mod., so recent reads won't even show up there. You'd have to just search the group in general I suppose, and look to see if the title shows up in a BotM thread.

There's a lot to do to manage a group, especially one established long ago by other people. Sorry we aren't more perfect. :)

The group bookshelf is searchable. There is a search bar. If the book is on the shelf it will show up as greyed out then you can click view and see if it was ever part of Group discussion or not. If it’s not on the shelf, you have the option of adding it. You can also sort the shelf by author or title etc.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Great!

Except for those books that never got shelved when they were discussed. Oy. That's a project that I am not up for.

Cheryl (cherylllr) And Sea of Tranquility is the winner! I look forward to it; if it's anywhere near as good as Station Eleven I'll be so happy.

Heather(Gibby), I will post the thread now. If I forget to open it by July 2nd, please remind me!
