Namaste: Pair 1 {Amanda & Eunice}
Free PassesIf you are totally stuck and unable to master a pose, you will each have 2 Free Passes to use during this challenge. Use them carefully!
To indicate you are using a pass, you will still need to choose a task that your partner isn't reading for and include that in the Task line. This is how you will still earn points for that pose. Then list Free Pass for How It Fits.
In the event of a tie at the end of the challenge, each Free Pass still in a player's possession will earn a 3-point bonus.
Partner A Free Passes:

Partner B Free Passes:
Welcome! Remember that you may not use a book completed before June 1st for this first round. Be sure you have read about the Free Passes in Message 3. Enjoy! 🧘🏼♀️
Let's get started with a super easy pose that often comes at the end of the yoga session.
Corpse Pose, Savasana, (shuh-VAHS-ah-nah)
corpse (shava) + asana (pose)
Also Known as: Final Relaxation, Mrtasana
Pose Type: Supine, Restorative, Stress Relieving, Headache
Difficulty: Beginner
Corpse Pose Fundamentals:
Savasana (Corpse Pose) is best enjoyed at the end of a yoga practice. Coming down to the earth and letting the physical and spiritual practice you have just embarked on integrate.
Savasana is not an afterthought, or a ‘cool down’, but it is a key moment for yourself and your practice. Taking Savasana can leave you with full body tingles, a calm mind, and a happy heart.
Having said that, it is often the stillest and simplest poses that can be the most challenging. Giving the mind permission to let go can be hard, and finding stillness in a racing mind can be difficult, or even uncomfortable.
Corpse Pose Benefits:
Calms the mind
Helps to relieve stress
Relaxes the body, allowing you to let go of tension in the muscles
Can help to overcome insomnia
Can lower blood pressure

To successfully complete this pose, choose from the following:

Way to go! Let's look at another simple pose.
Mountain Pose, Tadasana (tah-DAHS-ah-nah)
tada (mountain) + āsana (pose)
Also known as: Samasthiti, Palm Tree Pose,
Pose Type: Standing
Difficulty: Beginner
Mountain Pose Fundamentals:
It may look simple, but the importance of mountain pose is not to be underestimated. It forms the foundation for all standing poses and inversions in yoga and mastering Mountain Pose will greatly improve your balance and posture.
Be mindful of not simply using Mountain Pose as a transition between two poses. Tap into your mountain and approach it as a stand-alone asana.
When you bring your focus to Mountain Pose, you find a depth that can easily be overlooked. Consider how your joints are stacked and aligned, the natural curvature of your back, and what muscles you are engaging.
Mountain Pose Benefits:
Mountain pose strengthens your legs and your core
Improves your posture and body awareness
Helps realign the joints and limbs of the body

Gotta love those books that fit into multiple challenges! Added it to my ever-growing TBR too lol.
Mine was meh, I guess. Maybe I was just expecting too much because I remember there being a lot of hype surrounding the author and her books.

Outstanding! Let's look at the third pose of this challenge.
Upward Salute Pose, Urdhva Hastasana, (OORD-vah hahs-TAHS-ah-nah)
urdhva (upward) + hasta (hands)+ āsana (pose)
Also known as: Raised Hands Pose, The Palm Tree Pose, Talasana
Pose Type: Standing, Digestion
Difficulty: Beginners
Upward Salute Pose Fundamentals:
The Upward Salute is a foundation pose for all standing yoga poses and flows such as the Sun Salutation Sequence.
The pose may seem simple, and at a glance it is. But there are so many intricacies to play with here. The pose offers a moment to go inwards, become aware of your body, and find alignment.
Upward Salute Pose Benefits:
A sweet stretch to the arms and shoulders
Works to lengthen the upper body
Opens the chest
Gently stretches the belly- aiding in proper digestion
{Image & Info Credit: https://yogajala.com}

Mine is never ending too thanks to good reads and seeing your friends rate their reads.
That is the worse when there was so much hype about a particular book and you read it and your like what the heck. I dont know what people were thinking when they rated/recommended this book.

Great job! Let's try one of my favorite poses. :)
Child’s Pose, Balasana, (Baa-Laa-Suh-Nuh)
bala (child) + asana (pose)
Also known as: Child Pose, Yin Yoga Child Pose, Mouse Pose, Child’s Pose Stretch, Extended Child’s Pose
Pose Type: Back Pain, Stretching, Restorative, Menstruation, Stress Relief, Headaches, Sciatica
Difficulty: Beginner
Child’s Pose Fundamentals:
Child’s Pose is a foundational pose in our yoga practice that offers a space for us to rest in. It can serve as a powerful reminder that “not doing” is just as essential to our yoga practice (and our lives…), as “doing”.
Although at first glance Child’s Pose may seem easy, oftentimes, the simplest “do nothing” poses are the most challenging for our whirring minds. Be patient with yourself in Child’s Pose. Come back to the breath.
You will often find Child’s Pose in Restorative classes, or at the beginning of a yoga flow to allow a moment of stillness, or an opportunity to set an intention.
Child’s pose invites us to use props to fully support ourselves as we peel back the layers and come into deep relaxation.
Child’s Pose Benefits:
Tension relieving
Unclenches tense muscles
Allows your jaw to hang loose
Shoulders can melt backwards
Calming
Can slow your heartrate right down
Eases the muscles in the back, thighs, and hips with a gentle stretch
Aids with digestion

Nicely done! Now here's the next pose.
Cat-Cow Pose, Marjaryasana-Bitilasana, (maa-r-jaa-raa-suh-nuh , Bi-ti-laah-suh-nuh)
marjara (cat) + asana (pose) , bitila (cow) + asana (pose)
Also known as: Cat Cow Pose, Cat Cow Child Pose Flow, Kneeling Cat Swan Flow, Hovering Cat Pose
Pose Type: Backbend, Stretching, Stress Relief, Back Pain, Sciatica
Difficulty: Beginner
Cat-Cow Pose Fundamentals:
The Cat-Cow Pose is technically not a pose but instead a flow between two poses: Cat Pose, and Cow Pose.
Come into Cat-Cow at the beginning of a Vinyasa yoga flow to gently warm up the spine, hips, and upper body for the rest of your practice. Or come into Cat-Cow Pose to de-stress after a long day, or as a short break from your desk.
Cat-Cow is a wonderful opener for a yoga flow not only because it physically warms up your body, but also because it is an exercise in linking your body with your breath, centering yourself in your practice right from the get-go. Inhale as you move into Cow, and exhale through Cat.
Cat-Cow Pose Benefits:
Warms up the spine
Improves body awareness and coordination
Calms and soothes the mind
Can relieve back pain
Stretches and strengthens the spine and neck
Massages the internal organs
Improves posture

Excellent! Let's look at another pose.
Cobra Pose, Bhujangasana, (Bhoo-Jung-Gaa-Suh-Nuh)
bhujanga (cobra) + asana (posture)
Also known as: Upward Dog Pose
Pose Type: Stress Relief, Stretching, Strengthening, Back Pain, Sciatica, Digestion
Difficulty: Beginner
Cobra Pose Fundamentals:
Cobra Pose is a generous heart-opening backbend. Feel your chest radiate outwards as you unfurl into this pose.
You can flow through Cobra Pose in a Sun Salutation sequence in place of an Upward Facing Dog Pose.
Be aware of not straining your spine by pushing upwards too hard with your hands or coming into a Cobra too quickly. Instead, be sure that the pressure is evenly distributed throughout your spine, and bring your Cobra closer to the earth if you feel a pinching sensation.
Cobra Pose Benefits:
Strengthens the spine
Stretches the front body: chest, abs, and shoulders
Stimulates the digestive organs
Opens up the lungs and heart
Soothes backache and sciatica
An energy booster, fight fatigue with this pose
Improves posture

June 1 - August 23, 2023
Welcome to the Namaste: Summer Yoga Challenge here at Hooked on Books! Get ready to practice 12 poses and read some awesome books. Will you and your partner win the challenge? There's only one way to find out!
How it Works:
1. You will read ONE BOOK PER WEEK for this challenge. Books must be at least 100 pages, but the page count does not factor in to how many points you earn each week. This is a great challenge to knock some of those shorter books off your TBR shelf, if you choose!
2. The challenge will run for 12 weeks. Each week = one round. Round 1 will begin June 1st. Each round will run Thursday through Wednesday. Books MUST be completed and posted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time each Wednesday.
3. I have set this thread up for you and your partner. This is where you will get your tasks and each of you will post your Individual Completion Posts.
4. You will receive a set of six tasks for each yoga pose. You will each complete one task. You may NOT read for the same task as your partner for this challenge. Both partners MUST read for one of the tasks before you share your link in the Yoga Studio Completion Post Thread.
5. Tasks must be completed ON or AFTER June 1st.
6. Use this format for your INDIVIDUAL Completion Posts in your own threads.
Yoga Pose:
Book:
Author:
Date Read:

How it Fits:
7. ONLY AFTER BOTH of you have read for a task for the round, ONE of you will post a link to the first person's Completion Post for that round in the Yoga Studio Completion Post Thread . From there, I will then easily be able to find both of your Individual Completion Posts.
8. After you post in the Yoga Studio Completion Post Thread, I will let you know how many random, pre-determined points you each scored. ***NOTE: The scores are random and not based on how difficult you feel each task may be.*** Also, please be patient with me while I gather and post your points. :)
9. At the end of each round, I will post the results in the Meet Me on the Mat Challenge Standings Thread .
10. I will announce the Final Standings at the end of Round 12. This will be done by August 25th.
***Please post any questions you have in the Yogi Q & A Thread. Thanks!***
