As the joke goes, “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco,” but every time I’ve been there the weather has been perfect.
So, what is there to do at WorldCon?

You live in Lancashire!! Pot Kettle.
Glasgow is a tropical paradise compared to my town.
We get twice as much rain and it rains for more days per year.
I'd guess we are a tad warmer though.

Come to WorldCon in Glasgow! It’s a tropical paradise! (Compared to at least one town in Tasmania).
Meet your favourite SFF authors! Buy cool swag! Vote in the Hugo Awards! Hang out with fans just like you (such as me and Joanna) for endless geeky banter!
Save money for the Art Show. Get there the first day it is open. Besides art, there is jewelry, and clothing done by artists inspired by fantasy and SF.
I had fun at London in 2014 and Glasgow should be good too. in the Sun Glasgow is glorious, in the rain it is less so.I am keen, but find four days too much. May just do two days. Are Tom and Veronica going?

I don’t know if T&V are planning to attend, I hope they can make it! I’m not sure yet how many days I’ll be there, I booked for the whole thing but I may only be able to come for the weekend.

The previous Glasgow Worldcon had been the very first Worldcon I have attended. I enjoyed it very much and have not missed an Euopean one since then. Let‘s hope the second flight of WSFS Armadillo will be as succesful as the first one :-)

I plan to come but haven't purchased membership (the price will stay the same, is it not? I think many of the Chengdu congoers plan to go too considering the level of enthusiasm there.

Oh, you did end up going. That is awesome! I know it’s getting to be a little late now, but would you mind sharing more about your experiences there? Maybe start a thread up in general, where more folks might see it. If you don’t feel like it that is cool too, just think you would bring an interesting perspective, that I would enjoy hearing, and I think others would as well.

It doesn’t say what the prices will be as of 1st March, but I very much doubt it’s going to get cheaper, so if you’re keen to attend, best to book your ticket by the end of February.
Noted, Ruth, thanks.@John: I did a long thread in twitter/x, feel free to read! https://twitter.com/silvaubrey/status...
In a nutshell, for my first physical worldcon, it was a real blast :) the committee provided lots of facilities for those who came from afar, through their one hundred light year plan (or something like that), we were picked up from the airport, given free city tour, shuttle to the venue and free gifts. Everyone was super friendly and the volunteers made us feel so comfy. I now have a very high standard for the next ones 🤭

Loved the thread, Silvana, especially all your pictures of the venues and the food!

That was awesome. Very much enjoyed the twitter thread, and seeing all the pictures. And it got me to log into Twix for the first time in probably a year. I stopped using it on a regular basis about 2017, but still have an account. I used to be able to read peoples posts without logging in, but I guess that stopped under the new ownership.
@Ruth & John: my pleasure! I forgot there is a bot that makes it easier to read the thread, I think you don't have to login... Here is the link: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/17...

Here is the link: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/17......"That was easier to read. And I’m so glad you posted it, because it was for the whole convention. When I read the other feed it cut off during the opening ceremony, and I just figured that was all you posted. I’m so glad I was wrong. Wow you really did get to do a lot, and sounded like you got to hang out with some cool folks as well.
Oh right, I got the thread broken at least twice; The longer the thread the harder it is to maintain *sigh*Met cool folks indeed, as well as cute pandas!
I've decided to keep up my tradition of attending the Euro-Worldcons!So I'll be coming to Glasgow :)
I purchased the attending membership and booked a hotel but not yet with flights since idk if I would be able to attend :(

thanks! had a really great time there (at least lots of nice things to remember aside from the controversy)
I decided not to come due to some personal issues so I'll be just attending online. Have fun, you all! Looking forward to your stories.

It would be awesome to see some sword and laser folks (did we decide on “shields” as our collective name? I can’t remember) in person. Who else thinking of coming?
