Foundation is coming back to Apple TV, why Silo is great, you should not eat a bear, and what makes a great alien.

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5218 comments In one early Spider battle, a Portia used the ants to cut off the visual tools of the opposing army.

As the other leader said, "She blinded me...with Sci-Ants!"

Ruth | 1801 comments What, no mention of Bigolas Dickolas?!?

message 6: by Jan (new)

Jan | 787 comments I was disappointed as well 😄

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1662 comments In the more touristy parts of Thailand there is always one food cart that has bugs to eat. Crickets and grubs mostly,

Tamahome | 7281 comments Ruth wrote: "What, no mention of Bigolas Dickolas?!?"

Is it spotted?

Agreed. An S&L pick got social-media famous! This is How You Lose the Time War becoming a Best-selling book because some Twitter account that combines a Trigun character with a Monty Python reference told people to. So wild! Eat your heart out, Colleen Hoover 😆.
I checked and there's a big hold list on it at my library now. About time a quality SF book gets a chance to shine!
I read the interview with Amal El-Mohtar linked in the Quick Burns and found it so fascinating!

Tamahome | 7281 comments Speaking of Sci-ants, I just watched Quantumania on Disney.

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1662 comments I did too. Kind of sad I did not see it in Imax 3D.

Trike | 11307 comments Speaking of eating spiders if you’re a guest in someone’s home, it brings to mind the thing my mom always told us when the folks sent us off to stay with relatives every summer: “Eat what they give you to eat, sleep where they tell you to sleep.”

I think I’d draw the line at spiders, though. (And of course allergies are exempted.)

Elf pornstar ;)

Oaken | 424 comments I had a grasshopper taco at Oyamel Cocina when I was working in DC pre-covid. It was pretty good. And you could use the hind legs to pick your teeth after. Just kidding on that last part.

Steve (stephendavidhall) | 161 comments Here in Romania, the local right-wing nationalist party (AUR) is currently trying to pass a law that will ban insects in food because they have convinced themselves that the EU is going to secretly force them to eat insects (in reality, all the EU has done is start a trial of allowing clearly labelled insect flour).

Tamahome | 7281 comments I insisted on a "true macchiato" at Barnes & Noble, with just a shot of expresso and a dollop of milk foam. I didn't like it, lol. The Starbucks version is more like a flavored latte.

No more red food dye..

Oaken | 424 comments There is nothing wrong with Starbucks making a flavored latte, I just wish they wouldn’t confuse everybody by co-opting an existing name. I mean, I could start a pizzeria that served ground beef patties on a bun with lettuce and pickles but what’s the point of that?

John (agni4lisva) | 370 comments I think that Fabian was named after the Fabian Society in the UK, as the social change the character was advocating for is very much in keeping with its traditions.

A bit of local knowledge goes a long way ;-)
