Marketing self-published books is a challenge. What are some ways that you've seen successful marketing translate to fans and sales? Are in-person events better than online methods?

I never had much luck with in-person events. I post almost daily on Facebook, Tik Toc, and Instagram to keep book sales going. I do notice that I sell a book or two when I put something on FB and then share it to a like-minded group.
