Hello everyone, I wanted to ask (as a poet/writer) if anyone has a degree or working towards a degree/minor in writing, creative writing, film writing or poetry? As someone who is majoring in STEM & has an associates in Science of Nursing, but reads & writes I wanted to know if it would be work adding writing major/minor to my degree plan since I do intend on publishing my own poetry book in the near future. :) pls lmk !

I’m getting to get a degree in creative writing, but i think it mostly depends on how good the program is for you at your university. I got really lucky and am in a great program, but there are some that just teach things like ‘worldbuilding exists’
I have met many writers, some quite well known, and none of them had a degree in writing or creative writing. A few had degrees in English literature, but the common denominator was that they were all readers, the type of person who might read 4-6 books a month.
I have been writing stories and poetry since my childhood. I published a poetry book back in July 2022, the summer after graduating high school. This was with no college experience. But this winter, I declared a minor in creative writing, though I have not taken any courses in it yet. I would say that if writing is one of the most important hobbies for you, then you can totally minor in it. I have other hobbies like art, but that's something with techniques that are commonly learned from online video courses as well, so I decided to pick my writing interest for my minor.
