Fortune shook her mane, feeling the cool Canadian wind rush through her hair. She smiled, wondering what animals lurked in the forest. Fortune trotted across the fields that were plentiful and into the forest.
Midnight reared up on his hind, pushing two powerful legs forward. He galloped around the field, loving the wind.
Fortune abruptly turned back, knowing that she'd heard another horse in the field. Her field! Fortune galloped back hurriedly. She'd soon drive the intruder out.
Fortune saw a swish of black tail and pushed herself even faster. She was small, but she was fast.
"Stop!" Fortune whinnied. "Show yourself."
"Stop!" Fortune whinnied. "Show yourself."
Midnight stopped at the edge of the field, and turned around. He saw the little horse and looked at her.
Fortune met Midnight's gaze squarely.
"Forget that!" Fortune commanded. "Forget the noise. Concentrate. What is your name?"
"Forget that!" Fortune commanded. "Forget the noise. Concentrate. What is your name?"
Fortune was filled with disgust at how proud he was. "What is your business here?" she asked.
"Where do you live?" Fortune asked, becoming frustrated. Why wouldn't he tell her who he was, fully?
"i travel from field to field, never staying in one spot." Midnight answered her, "Now enough about me, what about you?" He neighed.
"My name is Fortune and I am controller of this field." Fortune reluctantly told him. "Wait. You could help me."
"Go into the forest. Make sure nobody is lurking who wants to kill me."
"JUST DO IT!" Fortune half-shrieked. "What creature are you most scared of?"
"Think deeply. You must be scared of one creature!"
Fortune pawed the Earth and whinnied, and looked back at the forest. Paws could be heard from the forest, scraping the ground and sending dirt flying. A lynx skidded to a stop beside the falabella. Fortune smiled.
"Ah, Fahd. Good. Can you find Durga?" she asked. The lynx nodded and sped off, towards the mountain range in the distance. Fortune looked back at Midnight and smiled expectantly.

A collection of noises made by big cats came closer and closer, until two faces came out of the thick woody maze.
"You've met my good friend Fahd. Now it's time for you to meet Durga. Maybe she'll change your mind about going into the forest. A gold tan face emerged, the face of a cougar.
"Durga is a mountain lion, Midnight." Fortune said.

Durga stood a little behind Fortune, awaiting commands.
"So," Fortune said. "You have a choice. Either you go into the forest and look out, or Durga teaches you not to defy me. Which will it be?"
"Good," Fortune smiled. "You're learning." She looked at Durga. "Durga, go with him. Make sure he does as he says he's going to do. If he doesn't... you can decide what to do with him. My treat."
Durga looked back at Midnight and grinned, intending to frighten Midnight.
Durga unsheathed the claws on her right front paw and held them close to to Midnight's flanks. "Move!" Durga growled. "Or my control of my paw may slip."
Durga retracted her claws and placed her paw back on the ground, following Midnight.
"Check there aren't any creatures that want to kill Mistress," Durga snarled at Midnight.
Durga followed Midnight closely.
Fortune looked after Durga worriedly. "She might go over the top," she said to Fahd. "Follow them from a small distance and make sure Durga doesn't kill him. He may be useful."
Fahd nodded and sped off after Midnight and Durga.

Fahd nodded and sped off after Midnight and Durga.
Fahd extended his claws on his right paw, daring Midnight to say something.
