How wonderful it is during the hot days of summer to be out on the water in a boat. This challenge will be talking about different sailboats you can take on the water.

Duration: June 1, 2023 - August 31, 2023
Level 1: 5 - 10 tasks
Level 2: 11 or more tasks
Each task can be done as often as needed.

1. CATAMARAN
A Catamaran is a multi-hulled watercraft featuring two parallel hulls of equal size. It is a geometry-stabilized craft, deriving its stability from its wide beam, rather than from a ballasted keel as with a monohull boat.
⛵ Read a book where a character studies math or with a boat on the cover (show cover) or where the author's initials can be found in CATAMARAN.

2. SCHOONER
A schooner is a type of sailing vessel defined by its rig: fore-and-aft rigged on all of two or more masts and, in the case of a two-masted schooner, the foremast generally being shorter than the mainmast.
⛵Read a book that is shorter (under 150 pages) or read a book that is second in a series or where the MC's initials can be found in SCHOONER.

3. SLOOP
A sloop is a sailboat with a single mast typically having only one headsail in front of the mast and one mainsail aft of (behind) the mast. Such an arrangement is called a fore-and-aft rig, and can be rigged as a Bermuda rig with triangular sails fore and aft, or as a gaff-rig with triangular foresail(s) and a gaff rigged mainsail.
⛵ Read a book that is first in a series or a book that is set in Bermuda or that the first letter of each title word can be found in HEADSAIL.

4. KETCH
A ketch is a two-masted sailboat whose mainmast is taller than the mizzen mast (or aft-mast), and whose mizzen mast is stepped forward of the rudder post. In the 19th and 20th centuries, ketch rigs were often employed on larger yachts and working watercraft, but ketches are also used as smaller working watercraft as short as 15 feet, or as small cruising boats, such as Bill Hanna's Tahiti ketches or L. Francis Herreshoff's Rozinante and H-28.
⛵ Read a book with a character called Bill, Francis or Hannah or read a book set in Tahiti or that two of the following numbers in the page count 1,2, 5, 8.

5. CUTTER
A cutter is a name for various types of watercraft. It can apply to the rig (sail plan) of a sailing vessel (but with regional differences in definition), to a governmental enforcement agency vessel (such as a coast guard or border force cutter), to a type of ship's boat which can be used under sail or oars, or, historically, to a type of fast-sailing vessel introduced in the 18th century, some of which were used as small warships. As a sailing rig, a cutter is a single-masted boat, with two or more headsails.
⛵ Read a book tagged war or read a book that is set in a coastal town or read a book that the first letter of each title word can be found in COAST GUARD.

6. YAWL
A yawl is a type of boat. The term has several meanings. It can apply to the rig (or sailplan), to the hull type or to the use which the vessel is put. As a rig, a yawl is a two masted, fore and aft rigged sailing vessel with the mizzen mast positioned abaft (behind) the rudder stock, or in some instances, very close to the rudder stock.
⛵ Read a book you have read more than once or read a book that someone takes stock of their lives (your interpretation) or where the the first letter of the MC's first name can be found in YAWL.

7. KEELBOAT
A keelboat is a type of usually long, narrow cigar-shaped riverboat, or unsheltered water barge which is sometimes also called a poleboat—that is built about a slight keel and is designed as a boat built for the navigation of rivers, shallow lakes, and sometimes canals that were commonly used in America including use in great numbers by settlers making their way west in the century-plus of wide-open western American frontiers. They were also used extensively for transporting cargo to market, and for exploration and trading expeditions, for water transport was then most effective means to move bulky or heavy cargo.
⛵ Read a book with a river on the cover. (Show cover) or read a book set in America or read a book about frontier life.

8. DINGY
A dinghy is a type of small boat, often carried or towed by a larger vessel for use as a tender. Utility dinghies are usually rowboats or have an outboard motor. Some are rigged for sailing but a dinghy's main use is for transfers from larger boats, especially when the larger boat cannot dock at a suitably-sized port or marina.
⛵ Read a book where an object is transferred from one person to another or read a book that is large (Over 300 pages) or read a book where a character drinks port.

9. TUGBOAT
A tugboat or tug is a marine vessel that helps move other vessels by pushing or pulling them, with direct contact or a tow line. These boats typically tug ships in circumstances where they cannot or should not move under their own power, such as in crowded harbors or narrow canals. Or where they can't move like barges, disabled ships, log rafts, or oil platforms. Some are ocean-going, and some are icebreakers or salvage tugs. Early models were powered by steam engines, which were later superseded by diesel engines. Many have deluge gun water jets, which help in firefighting, especially in harbors.
⛵ Read a book where a fire occurs or where a vehicle is disabled or where the author's initials can be found in HARBOR.

10. JUNK
A junk is a type of Chinese sailing ship with fully battened sails. There are two types of junk in China: northern junk, which developed from Chinese river boats, and southern junk, which developed from Austronesian ships visiting southern Chinese coasts since the 3rd century CE. They continued to evolve in later dynasties and were predominantly used by Chinese traders throughout Southeast Asia. Similar junk sails were also adopted by other East Asian countries, most notably Japan where junks were used as merchant ships to trade goods with China and Southeast Asia.
⛵ Read a book set in Asia or read a book which you think is good or read a book where the first letter of the location of the book can be found in JUNK.

Similar junk sails were also adopted by other East Asian countries, most notably Japan where junks were used as merchant ships to trade goods with China and Southeast Asia.

✔ ⛵ Read a book where a fire occurs
Magic Tides - Ilona Andrews 6/5

✔ ⛵ Read a book which you think is good
Desperation in Death - J.D. Robb 6/9
✔ ⛵ Read a book where the first letter of the location of the book can be found in JUNK.
Hidden Pictures - Jason Rekulak (New Jersey) 6/9
