This book is a classic for a reason. It does not merely belong in one genre. The story is divided into multiple parts which each hold their own weight and value. The story holds some mystery, comedy, an air of adventure, plenty of drama, romance, and a dash of insanity. Overall, the heart of the story is that money does not necessarily lead to happiness. One cannot buy the important things. Pip learns this throughout the story. Such can make it a bit difficult to read at times. Dickens definitely takes you on a whirlwind adventure. However, the story does become more comical as it progresses. I feel so proud of myself for marking this off my to-read list.
This should be interesting. I've listened to the audiobook of this title, but never read it. I am interested to see what differences it makes in my opinions of the book. I remember the book as being a good listen. I've also watched at least one film adaptation, not sure which one. I look forward to it.
I started this book over the weekend, after having started it once about a decade ago but never finishing (the bookmark was still in it at only Chapter 5...).I expected it to be slow going because I'm a slow reader these days anyway, but it's been somewhat of a breeze. I adore the writing style and narration, but Joe is my absolute favourite so far. I'm intrigued by the mysteries of Miss Havisham's past, and I wonder how the escaped convict is going to come back into play.
On to Chapter 11, so far so good!
